The solutions for hematospermia?

A week ago, I experienced a little bit of blood after ejaculation during masturbation.
There was no pain or discomfort, and urination was the same.
I was very anxious at that time, so I searched online for answers and found something called hematospermia.
However, it seems that it primarily occurs in middle-aged men.
I read on a news site that most cases of hematospermia resolve on their own, which reassured me.
But then I came across another article about a 15-year-old, like me, who ended up saying it was terminal and needed surgery, which scared me! I also consulted online, and they suggested abstaining from ejaculation for over a week, but I’m still worried.
Is there a way to resolve this without seeing a doctor or taking medication? I don’t want my family to know about this.
Please help me!

Dr. Lai Ronghao reply Urology

In most cases, hypogonadism will resolve on its own.
However, if you are still concerned, it is best to schedule an appointment at the hospital for an examination.
Additionally, inform your family and avoid keeping any issues to yourself.

Hematospermia, or the presence of blood in semen, can be a concerning symptom for many individuals, especially for younger men who may not expect to encounter such issues. It’s understandable to feel anxious after experiencing this symptom, particularly when searching for information online can lead to a mix of reassurance and alarming possibilities.
First and foremost, it’s important to recognize that hematospermia is not uncommon and can occur in men of various ages, including adolescents. The causes of hematospermia can range from benign to more serious conditions. Common causes include:
1. Infection or Inflammation: Conditions such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis), or urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) can lead to blood in the semen. These infections may be accompanied by other symptoms like pain or discomfort, but in some cases, they can be asymptomatic.

2. Trauma: Any injury to the genital area, whether from vigorous sexual activity, masturbation, or an accident, can result in bleeding.

3. Vascular Issues: Abnormal blood vessels in the reproductive system can sometimes rupture, leading to hematospermia.

4. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Although more common in older men, BPH can also cause bleeding in younger individuals.

5. Tumors: While less common, tumors in the prostate, seminal vesicles, or other parts of the reproductive system can cause blood in the semen.

In most cases, hematospermia is self-limiting and resolves on its own, especially if it is due to minor trauma or a transient infection. However, if the bleeding persists, recurs, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, difficulty urinating, or systemic symptoms like fever, it is crucial to seek medical attention.
Regarding your concern about home remedies or solutions without consulting a doctor, here are a few general suggestions that may help:
- Rest and Avoid Strain: If you suspect that the bleeding is due to recent sexual activity or masturbation, consider taking a break for a week or so to allow your body to recover.

- Hydration: Drink plenty of water to help flush out your urinary system.

- Warm Compress: Applying a warm compress to the pelvic area may help alleviate discomfort if there is any associated pain or tension.

- Avoid Irritants: Stay away from substances that can irritate the urinary tract, such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods.

- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms. If the bleeding continues or worsens, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional.

While it’s understandable to want to keep this matter private, especially from family, remember that healthcare providers are trained to handle such issues with confidentiality and sensitivity. If you feel uncomfortable discussing this with your family, consider seeking advice from a trusted healthcare professional or a clinic that specializes in men's health.

In conclusion, while hematospermia can be alarming, it is often benign, especially in younger individuals. However, it’s essential to pay attention to your body and seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen. Your health is paramount, and addressing concerns early can lead to better outcomes.
