There is a lump on the earlobe that is tilted backward?
Doctor, I have a lump behind the earlobe on the left side, about the size of a 1 cm round ball, and it doesn't hurt.
What could it be? Additionally, I've been experiencing sharp pains in my neck and temple recently.
What could be causing that? Also, the bone in my left cheek near my teeth makes a clicking sound when I move it side to side.
What could be going on with these symptoms?

Dear Inquirer,
Based on your literal question, there are some clarifications needed.
Is the lump behind your earlobe fixed or movable? Do you feel any soreness when you press on that lump? As for the bone above the teeth on the left side of your cheek that makes a clicking sound when moving side to side, it may be related to a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, possibly just mild arthritis.
Sincerely,
Dr.

When it comes to ear lobe swelling and associated pain symptoms, there are several potential causes that could explain your situation. The swelling you describe behind your left ear lobe, approximately 1 cm in size and painless, could be due to a few different factors.
One common cause of painless swelling in that area is a lymph node enlargement. Lymph nodes can swell in response to infections, inflammation, or other immune responses. If you have had any recent infections, even minor ones, this could lead to lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes). Another possibility is a sebaceous cyst, which is a benign growth that can occur in the skin and is typically painless unless infected.
The pain you are experiencing in your neck and temple area could be related to several conditions. One possibility is tension headaches, which can cause discomfort in the temples and neck due to muscle tension. Another consideration is temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, particularly since you mentioned experiencing a clicking or popping sensation when moving your jaw. TMJ disorders can lead to pain in the jaw, ear, and surrounding areas, and can also cause referred pain to the neck and temples.
The sensation of your left cheekbone or teeth feeling like they are moving or catching could also be related to TMJ issues. The TMJ connects your jaw to your skull and can become misaligned or inflamed, leading to discomfort and abnormal sensations.
Given these symptoms, it is advisable to seek a thorough evaluation from an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist or a dentist who specializes in TMJ disorders. They can perform a physical examination, possibly including imaging studies like X-rays or MRIs, to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
In the meantime, there are some self-care measures you can consider. For the swelling, applying a warm compress may help if it is related to a lymph node or cyst. For the pain in your neck and temples, practicing relaxation techniques, gentle neck stretches, and applying heat may provide relief. If you suspect TMJ dysfunction, avoiding hard or chewy foods and practicing jaw relaxation exercises can also be beneficial.
In conclusion, while there are several potential explanations for your symptoms, a thorough medical evaluation is essential to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Given your concerns about the swelling and associated pain, I recommend making an appointment with a healthcare provider as soon as possible to ensure you receive the care you need.
