Anejaculation
Hello, Dr.
Hsu.
I often experience interrupted ejaculation, which leads to a feeling of impending climax without actually ejaculating.
Instead, only a small amount of prostatic fluid is released.
However, after each occurrence, I feel fatigued as if I have just ejaculated.
I would like to know if the lack of ejaculation still results in physical exhaustion due to the climax.
Is there a difference in physical exertion between ejaculating and not ejaculating? Ultimately, should I aim to ejaculate? Thank you.
Mr. Lin, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2011/01/09
Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Mr.
Lin: From the perspective of Western medicine, ejaculation does not cause any problems, and there is no basis for the claims made by traditional Chinese medicine or some wellness practices that suggest a specific number of days one should wait to ejaculate based on age, and so on.
Western medicine believes that as long as ejaculation occurs, it indicates that the body is functioning well.
Frequent ejaculation does not harm the body.
Regarding physical strength, whether or not ejaculation occurs, energy will still be expended.
After all, both erection and ejaculation require the excitation of muscle nerves and consume energy.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can further discuss and research together.
This response is from Dr.
Hsu Wei-kai, Director of the Urology Department, Taitung Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan.

Ejaculation interruptions, often referred to as "dry orgasms," can indeed lead to feelings of fatigue and energy depletion, even if no semen is expelled. This phenomenon can be attributed to several physiological and psychological factors.
Firstly, during sexual arousal and orgasm, the body undergoes a series of physiological changes. The heart rate increases, blood pressure rises, and various hormones, including oxytocin and endorphins, are released. These changes prepare the body for ejaculation and contribute to the pleasurable sensations associated with orgasm. Even if ejaculation does not occur, the body still experiences these physiological responses, which can lead to a sense of exertion and fatigue afterward.
The sensation of climax, even without ejaculation, can still be intense. The body may still engage in muscle contractions and other responses that are typical of orgasm. This can lead to a release of tension and a feeling of relaxation afterward, similar to what one might experience after a typical ejaculation. However, the absence of semen release can create a sense of incompleteness for some individuals, which may contribute to feelings of fatigue or dissatisfaction.
Moreover, the psychological aspect cannot be overlooked. Sexual experiences are not solely physical; they also involve emotional and mental components. If you associate ejaculation with satisfaction, the lack of it may lead to feelings of disappointment or frustration, which can further contribute to a sense of fatigue. The mind and body are interconnected, and emotional responses can influence physical sensations and energy levels.
Regarding whether one should aim to ejaculate, it ultimately depends on personal preference and comfort. Some individuals may find that ejaculation enhances their sexual experience, while others may not feel the need for it. If the interruptions are causing distress or impacting your sexual health or relationships, it may be beneficial to consult with a healthcare professional or a sex therapist. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation and help address any underlying issues that may be contributing to the interruptions.
In summary, even without ejaculation, the body can still experience significant physiological responses that lead to feelings of fatigue. The interplay between physical sensations and psychological factors plays a crucial role in how one feels after sexual activity. If these experiences are causing concern or discomfort, seeking professional advice can be a valuable step toward understanding and improving your sexual health.
