Frequent ejaculation

Doctor, may I ask what conditions may arise from daily ejaculation, excluding age-related issues? I have read reports that frequent ejaculation can help prevent prostate cancer.
However, if this continues long-term, could it lead to desensitization of the penis to ejaculation? Would it harm sexual function?

JACK, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2011/01/09

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology

Jack: Hello, Western medicine does not have the concept of using sexual activity for health maintenance.
Therefore, as long as the body is capable, frequent ejaculation does not have significant negative effects.
Of course, Traditional Chinese Medicine strongly disagrees with this view.
Frequent ejaculation can promote the expulsion of semen, potentially preventing inflammation, which may lower the incidence of prostate cancer; however, the mechanism is unclear and remains a hypothesis.
Nevertheless, Western medicine believes that the frequency of ejaculation is not related to physical depletion.
As for whether ejaculation can lead to paralysis, I think that if the stimulation is sufficient, ejaculation can still occur effectively.
Just like when you run every day, your muscles become firmer to adapt to running.
Unless excessive exercise leads to injury, it should not cause muscle paralysis, right? I believe the same applies to the muscles and nerves involved in ejaculation.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.
This response is from Dr.
Hsu Wei-Kai, Director of Urology, Taitung Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan.

Frequent ejaculation has been a topic of interest in men's health, particularly regarding its potential benefits and risks. Research suggests that regular ejaculation may have protective effects against prostate cancer. A study published in the journal "European Urology" indicated that men who ejaculate more frequently—about 21 times a month or more—may have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer compared to those who ejaculate less frequently. This is thought to be due to the flushing out of potentially harmful substances from the prostate, reducing inflammation and the risk of cancerous changes.

However, the relationship between ejaculation frequency and sexual health is multifaceted. While frequent ejaculation can be beneficial, concerns about potential negative effects on sexual function and sensitivity have been raised. Some men worry that excessive ejaculation might lead to desensitization or a decrease in sexual pleasure over time. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support the idea that frequent ejaculation leads to erectile dysfunction or a significant decrease in sexual sensitivity.
In fact, regular sexual activity, including ejaculation, is often associated with better erectile function and sexual health. It can help maintain the health of the erectile tissues and improve blood flow to the penis, which is crucial for maintaining erectile function. Additionally, sexual activity can enhance mood and reduce stress, contributing positively to overall well-being.

It's important to note that individual experiences may vary. Some men may find that frequent ejaculation leads to temporary fatigue or a decrease in libido, particularly if it is done excessively or without adequate recovery time. This is often more related to overall physical and mental health rather than the act of ejaculation itself.
Regarding the concern about "penile numbness" or desensitization, this is typically not a common outcome of frequent ejaculation. However, if a man experiences changes in sensitivity or sexual function, it may be beneficial to evaluate other factors such as stress, anxiety, or underlying health conditions that could be contributing to these changes.
In conclusion, while frequent ejaculation may offer some protective benefits against prostate cancer and is generally not harmful to sexual function, it is essential to listen to one's body and maintain a balanced approach. If there are concerns about sexual health or changes in function, consulting a healthcare provider is advisable. They can provide personalized advice and address any underlying issues that may be affecting sexual health.
