Surgical issues related to ligaments?
Hello, doctor.
I previously asked about ligament surgery, and I have undergone the procedure.
It's been almost two months, and the wounds have healed, but a few of the sutured areas feel a bit hard, and there is one larger granulation tissue that feels firm when pressed.
I want to ask if it's normal to experience slight pain in the penis about a month after the surgery.
The discomfort comes and goes; although it doesn't affect my daily life, it is still uncomfortable.
The pain seems to be located around the granulation tissue.
Am I being too sensitive, or could this be a normal occurrence? Also, is it normal for the sutured areas to feel hard to the touch?
Additionally, I often feel a pulling pain in my lower left abdomen when I'm with my girlfriend, followed by testicular pain.
However, after an examination, the doctor said I have varicocele, but my semen analysis was normal, and the doctor mentioned that treatment is not necessary at this time.
Is that correct? Sorry for asking so many questions, and thank you, doctor.

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
KM: Hello, 1.
Granulation tissue is more sensitive and firmer in the early stages.
2.
Varicocele can be diagnosed using ultrasound.
Generally, if the semen analysis is normal and there is no pain, treatment is not necessary.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.

It sounds like you are experiencing a range of post-surgical symptoms that are causing you significant discomfort and concern. Let's address your questions and provide some insights based on medical knowledge.
Firstly, it is not uncommon to experience some degree of discomfort or pain after ligament surgery, especially in the area where the sutures were placed. The hardness you feel at the suture sites can be due to scar tissue formation, which is a normal part of the healing process. Scar tissue can sometimes feel firmer than the surrounding tissue and may take time to soften. The presence of a larger granulation tissue (the "meatball" you mentioned) can also be a normal response to healing, but if it becomes painful or bothersome, it may need to be evaluated by your surgeon.
Regarding the mild pain in your penis that you have been experiencing, this could be related to several factors. It might be due to nerve irritation or sensitivity in the area post-surgery. Sometimes, surgical procedures can lead to changes in sensation, and it is not unusual for patients to report discomfort that fluctuates in intensity. If the pain persists or worsens, it would be wise to consult your surgeon to rule out any complications.
As for the pain in your left lower abdomen and testicles during intimacy, this could be linked to the previously diagnosed varicocele (enlarged veins within the scrotum). Varicoceles can cause discomfort and may contribute to testicular pain, particularly during physical activity or sexual intercourse. The fact that your semen analysis came back normal is a good sign, indicating that your fertility is likely unaffected at this time. Many doctors recommend monitoring varicoceles unless they are causing significant pain or other complications. If the pain continues to be a problem, discussing treatment options with a urologist may be beneficial.
In summary, while some discomfort and changes in sensation are normal after surgery, it is essential to maintain open communication with your healthcare providers. If any of your symptoms become more severe or if you have concerns about your healing process, do not hesitate to seek further evaluation. Regular follow-ups with your surgeon or urologist can help ensure that any potential issues are addressed promptly, allowing you to focus on your recovery and overall well-being. Remember, your health and comfort are paramount, and there are often solutions available to help manage post-surgical symptoms effectively.
