Concerns About Skin Irritation After Using Medication for Warts - Urology

Levemir inquiry?

Dear Director Hsu,
I have a cauliflower-like growth on the inner side of my foreskin.
After applying LedaMed for two weeks, I noticed redness, swelling, and skin breakdown around the area, and I have since stopped using the medication.
My questions are:
1.
Is there a risk that the broken skin could become infected with the cauliflower growth?
2.
Should I apply medication to the broken skin?
3.
Should I wait until the redness, swelling, and skin breakdown resolve before resuming the use of LedaMed?
I am currently out of the country and unable to seek immediate medical attention, so I would greatly appreciate your response.
Thank you!

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology

Hello, generally, Lede Mei is used three times a week, on alternate days.
After application, wash it off after an interval of 6-10 hours.
As for areas with broken skin, it is recommended to wait until the wound has healed before using it.

When dealing with skin irritation after using a medication like Warticon (commonly known as "乐得美"), it is essential to approach the situation with caution. The symptoms you describe—redness, swelling, and broken skin—are common reactions to topical treatments, especially those that are potent and designed to target specific skin conditions like warts.
Firstly, it is crucial to understand that broken skin can indeed increase the risk of infection. The skin serves as a barrier to pathogens, and when this barrier is compromised, bacteria or fungi can enter and cause an infection. If the area around the wart is red, swollen, and broken, it is advisable to keep it clean and dry. You should avoid applying any irritants or further topical treatments until the area has healed.
In terms of whether you should apply medication to the broken skin, it is generally not recommended to apply wart treatments directly to broken or irritated skin. Doing so can exacerbate irritation and delay healing. Instead, focus on allowing the skin to recover. You may want to use a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer to keep the area hydrated, but avoid anything that could further irritate the skin.

Once the redness and irritation have subsided, you can consider resuming the use of Warticon. However, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare professional before doing so, especially since you are currently outside of your home country and may not have immediate access to your usual healthcare providers. If you are unable to see a doctor in person, consider reaching out to a telemedicine service where you can discuss your symptoms and get tailored advice.

In the meantime, monitor the affected area for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, swelling, or pus. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible. An infection may require antibiotics or other treatments to resolve.

Additionally, if you have a history of skin sensitivity or allergic reactions, it might be worth discussing alternative treatments for warts with a healthcare provider. There are various options available, including cryotherapy, laser treatment, or other topical agents that may be less irritating to the skin.

In summary, prioritize healing the irritated skin before resuming any wart treatments. Keep the area clean, avoid further irritation, and consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice. Your skin's health is paramount, and taking the time to ensure it heals properly will help you avoid complications in the future.
