Pregnancy
Doctor, I would like to ask, I am currently 7 weeks pregnant, but since the 6th week, I have experienced light pink spotting.
However, during my medical visit, the embryo measured 1.37 cm and had a heartbeat of 133 beats per minute.
I have been taking progesterone, but there has been no improvement.
When I asked my attending physician, they hurried me out without answering my questions.
Is the embryo considered stable at this point?

Dr. Lü Lizheng reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello: Basically, as long as the embryo is developing according to gestational age and there is a stable heartbeat, there is a greater than 95% chance of being healthy.
Although there may be slight bleeding, there is no need to worry.
The cause of the bleeding may be due to uterine contractions, and taking progesterone may provide some improvement.
Additionally, some pregnant women experience bleeding due to cervical polyps, and in such cases, taking progesterone will not help.
A pelvic examination may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis if needed.
Wishing you safety and health.
Sincerely, Dr.
Li-Cheng Lu, Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

More Info
At 7 weeks pregnant, experiencing light pink spotting can understandably cause concern. However, based on the information provided, it appears that your pregnancy is relatively stable. The key indicators of a healthy early pregnancy include the growth of the embryo and the presence of a heartbeat. In your case, the embryo measures 1.37 cm and has a heartbeat of 133 beats per minute, which are both positive signs. Typically, as long as the embryo is developing according to the expected growth rate and has a detectable heartbeat, the chances of a healthy pregnancy are quite high—around 95% or more.
Spotting during early pregnancy is not uncommon and can occur for various reasons. One potential cause is uterine contractions, which can lead to light bleeding. Additionally, some women may experience spotting due to cervical changes or conditions such as cervical polyps, which can cause minor bleeding without affecting the pregnancy. The administration of progesterone (黄体素) is often prescribed to support the pregnancy, but it may not always resolve spotting if the underlying cause is unrelated to hormonal levels.
It's important to note that while light spotting can be normal, any significant changes in bleeding patterns, such as increased volume or the presence of clots, should prompt a visit to your healthcare provider. If you continue to experience spotting or have any other concerning symptoms, such as cramping or severe pain, it is advisable to seek further evaluation.
Regarding your experience with your healthcare provider, it can be frustrating to feel rushed during appointments, especially when you have questions and concerns. It is your right as a patient to seek clarification and express your worries. If you feel that your concerns were not adequately addressed, consider scheduling a follow-up appointment or seeking a second opinion from another healthcare provider who may take the time to discuss your situation in detail.
In summary, while light pink spotting can be concerning, the current indicators of your pregnancy—embryo growth and heartbeat—suggest that it is stable. However, remain vigilant and do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider if you have any further questions or if your symptoms change. Your peace of mind is essential during this critical time in your pregnancy.
