Pain at the tip of the penis?

Hello Doctor,
I would like to ask about a personal issue I have noticed over the past week or two.
I have been experiencing pain in my penis, specifically located between the glans and the scar from the circumcision, on the upper side and both sides.
There seems to be more swelling than usual (which is not noticeable when erect).
Normally, I don't feel anything, but if I intentionally touch or apply pressure, or during masturbation, I experience pain.
The swollen area feels firm to the touch.
Could you please advise what this condition might be? Is there anything specific I should be aware of? I plan to visit a hospital for a consultation if the symptoms do not improve in a day or two.
Do you have any recommendations? Thank you for your response.

Your symptoms cannot be diagnosed through a written description.
It is advisable to rest and observe.
After bathing, you may apply a warm compress to the painful area.
If you still have concerns, please seek assistance from a nearby physician.

More Info

Understanding pain at the tip of the penis, particularly in the area just behind the glans (the head of the penis) and around the circumcision scar, can be concerning and may arise from a variety of causes. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing localized pain and swelling, especially during sexual activity or when pressure is applied. Here are some potential causes and recommendations for your situation.

Possible Causes
1. Post-Circumcision Sensitivity: If you have recently undergone circumcision, it is common for the area to be sensitive as it heals. The skin and underlying tissues may be more reactive, leading to discomfort or pain during touch or sexual activity.

2. Infection: Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or posthitis (inflammation of the foreskin) can cause pain and swelling. These infections can arise from poor hygiene, irritants, or sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

3. Peyronie's Disease: This condition involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can lead to pain, especially during erections. It may also cause curvature of the penis.

4. Trauma or Injury: Any recent trauma to the genital area, even if minor, can result in localized pain and swelling. This could be from vigorous sexual activity or other physical impacts.

5. Allergic Reaction or Irritation: Sometimes, irritation from soaps, lotions, or condoms can lead to localized inflammation and pain.

6. Urethritis: Inflammation of the urethra can also cause pain at the tip of the penis, especially if there is an associated infection.

Recommendations
1. Avoid Irritation: Until you can see a healthcare provider, try to avoid any activities that may exacerbate the pain, such as masturbation or sexual intercourse. This will help prevent further irritation and allow any inflammation to subside.

2. Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene by gently cleaning the area with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh soaps or products that may cause irritation.

3. Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress to the area may help reduce swelling and alleviate pain temporarily.

4. Over-the-Counter Pain Relief: If the pain is bothersome, consider taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, following the recommended dosages.

5. Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on your symptoms. If the swelling increases, you develop a fever, or if you notice any discharge, it is important to seek medical attention promptly.

6. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Since you mentioned planning to visit a doctor if symptoms do not improve, this is a wise decision. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination, possibly order tests (like a urinalysis or swab), and provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

When to Seek Immediate Care
If you experience severe pain, significant swelling, fever, or any signs of infection (such as pus or unusual discharge), it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a more serious condition that requires prompt treatment.

In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the pain and swelling you are experiencing, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Do not hesitate to reach out for medical help, as early intervention can often lead to better outcomes.
