Chronic prostatitis and issues related to sexual life?
Hello, Dr.
Hsu.
Thank you very much for your detailed response to my previous questions.
I have two more inquiries regarding chronic prostatitis that I would like to ask you.
1.
It is commonly advised by physicians that patients with prostatitis should not abstain from sexual activity or engage in excessive sexual activity, but rather maintain regular ejaculation for positive benefits on their condition.
I would like to ask if there is a specific frequency limit for what is considered "excessive sexual activity"? Is ejaculating once every 1 to 2 days considered too frequent?
2.
Additionally, in your last response, you mentioned that deliberately delaying ejaculation can have negative effects on the prostate, particularly if the erection lasts too long, as this may cause pressure on the ducts of the prostate and even lead to reflux.
However, I would like to know if it is really not advisable to hold back a little when trying to help a partner achieve orgasm or to enjoy the pleasurable experience a bit longer.
Personally, I tend to feel the urge to ejaculate after about 5 to 10 minutes during masturbation or intercourse.
If I use the "Stop and Go" technique to delay ejaculation to about half an hour, would this have any adverse effects on chronic prostatitis?

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Danlin: Hello, it is acceptable to do it once every 1.1 to 2 days.
2.
It is uncertain.
You can give it a try and listen to your body's response; if you feel uncomfortable, reduce the duration of the erection.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.
Answers from the internet should only serve as a reference; if necessary, it is important to seek medical attention at a healthcare facility.

Chronic prostatitis is a condition that can significantly impact a patient's quality of life, including sexual health. Understanding the relationship between chronic prostatitis and sexual activity is crucial for managing symptoms and improving overall well-being. Here are some key insights regarding your questions:
1. Frequency of Ejaculation: The recommendation for patients with chronic prostatitis is often to maintain regular ejaculation, as this can help relieve pressure in the prostate and reduce inflammation. The term "excessive sexual activity" or "overindulgence" can be subjective and varies from person to person. Generally, ejaculating once every 1-2 days is not considered excessive for most individuals. However, it is essential to listen to your body. If you notice that frequent ejaculation exacerbates your symptoms, it may be worth discussing with your healthcare provider to tailor a frequency that works best for you.
2. Delaying Ejaculation: The concern regarding prolonged erections and delayed ejaculation is valid. When an erection is maintained for an extended period without ejaculation, it can lead to increased pressure in the prostate, potentially worsening prostatitis symptoms. However, the "Stop and Go" technique you mentioned, where you delay ejaculation to enhance pleasure for your partner, can be practiced with caution. If you find that delaying ejaculation for 5-10 minutes does not lead to discomfort or increased symptoms, it may be acceptable. However, if you experience any pain or discomfort during this process, it is advisable to ejaculate sooner to prevent exacerbating your condition.
3. Impact of Sexual Activity on Prostatitis: Engaging in sexual activity, including masturbation and intercourse, can have both positive and negative effects on chronic prostatitis. Regular sexual activity may help reduce symptoms by promoting prostate health through ejaculation. However, if sexual activity leads to discomfort or pain, it may be necessary to adjust the frequency or technique. Communication with your partner about your condition and any discomfort you experience is essential for a satisfying sexual experience.
4. Lifestyle Modifications: In addition to managing sexual activity, lifestyle changes can also play a significant role in managing chronic prostatitis. Staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy diet, and avoiding irritants such as caffeine and alcohol can help reduce symptoms. Regular exercise and pelvic floor exercises may also contribute to improved prostate health.
5. Consultation with Healthcare Providers: It is crucial to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider regarding your symptoms and sexual health. If you notice any changes in your condition or if sexual activity consistently leads to discomfort, it may be necessary to reassess your treatment plan. Your healthcare provider can offer personalized recommendations based on your specific situation.
In summary, while regular ejaculation is generally beneficial for managing chronic prostatitis, individual experiences may vary. It is essential to find a balance that works for you, considering both your comfort and your partner's needs. If you have further concerns or if your symptoms persist, do not hesitate to seek professional medical advice for tailored guidance.
