Unusual Tingling Sensation at the Penis-Scrotum Junction: Is It Normal? - Urology

After DIY, there is a strange tingling sensation at the junction of the base of the penis and the scrotum?

Recently, after a DIY ejaculation, I held back from finishing, and afterward, I started feeling a strange tingling sensation at the junction of the base of my penis and my scrotum.
I can't pinpoint the exact location (this has been happening since last night).
Is this normal? How can I improve this? Do I need to see a doctor? PS: I recently had urinary stones, but I believe they have already passed.
Could this be related to the urinary stones? Thank you!

Mr. Zheng, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2012/06/21

Dr. Lin Hexing reply Urology

Hello: If the symptoms are solely related to masturbation, there is no need for any examinations.
However, since you have a history of urinary stones and it is uncertain whether they have passed, it is necessary to consult a urologist to determine if your urinary symptoms are related to the stones.
To improve your symptoms, it is important to drink plenty of water to increase urine output, but avoid consuming irritants such as alcohol and coffee.
Wishing you peace and happiness.

Experiencing an unusual tingling sensation at the junction of the penis and scrotum can be concerning, and it's understandable that you're seeking clarity on this matter. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis, I can offer some insights based on medical knowledge and common practices.

Firstly, the tingling sensation you describe could be attributed to several factors. One possibility is that it may be related to nerve irritation or compression in the pelvic region. This can occur due to various reasons, including prolonged pressure on the nerves during certain activities, such as sexual activity or even sitting for extended periods. The pelvic floor muscles and the surrounding nerves can sometimes become overstimulated or fatigued, leading to sensations like tingling or numbness.

Another consideration is the potential connection to your recent history of urinary stones. While the passage of kidney stones can cause significant discomfort and pain, once the stones have passed, residual irritation in the urinary tract or pelvic area can persist. This irritation might manifest as tingling or discomfort in the genital region. However, if you have indeed passed the stones and are no longer experiencing pain or other urinary symptoms, it's less likely that the stones are directly causing the tingling.

In some cases, the tingling sensation could also be related to anxiety or stress, particularly if you are preoccupied with your health or any discomfort you are experiencing. Psychological factors can sometimes manifest physically, leading to sensations that may not have a clear physiological cause.

As for whether this sensation is normal, it can be quite variable among individuals. Some people may experience transient sensations without any underlying pathology, while others may have more persistent symptoms that warrant further investigation. If the tingling sensation persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or changes in urination, it would be advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination and possibly imaging studies, to rule out any underlying conditions.

In terms of management, if the tingling is mild and not associated with other concerning symptoms, you might consider some conservative measures. These could include avoiding prolonged sitting, practicing pelvic floor exercises to strengthen the muscles in that area, and ensuring that you are not engaging in activities that may exacerbate the sensation. Additionally, relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or mindfulness, may help alleviate any anxiety that could be contributing to the sensation.

In summary, while occasional tingling at the penis-scrotum junction can occur and may not always indicate a serious issue, it is essential to monitor your symptoms. If you have any doubts or if the sensation persists, consulting a healthcare professional would be the best course of action to ensure your peace of mind and health.
