I have been experiencing continuous bleeding recently?
I started my period around July 20th, but the flow has been much lighter than before.
Unlike previous cycles, there hasn't been a noticeable increase in flow during the first three days.
I thought it would end like it usually does in seven days, but I still have a small amount of bleeding now.
After visiting a gynecologist, the doctor prescribed me medication to stop the bleeding, which is effective, but once the medication wears off, the bleeding resumes.
I'm not sure if this is because my period hasn't fully cleared out or if I'm at risk of cervical cancer.
I'm really anxious about this.

Prolonged menstrual bleeding, also known as menorrhagia, can be a concerning symptom for many women, and it is understandable that you are feeling anxious about your situation. It is important to address your concerns with accurate information and medical knowledge.
Menorrhagia can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, and certain medical conditions such as thyroid disorders or clotting disorders. In some cases, it may also be a side effect of medications, including hormonal contraceptives or anticoagulants. Given that you have been experiencing prolonged bleeding since July 20, it is essential to consider these potential causes.
The fact that your bleeding has not followed the typical pattern of your menstrual cycle—where bleeding is heavier at the beginning and tapers off—can indicate an underlying issue. The use of medication to stop the bleeding, as prescribed by your gynecologist, is a common approach. However, if the bleeding resumes once the medication wears off, it may suggest that the underlying cause has not been fully addressed.
Your concern about the possibility of cervical cancer is valid, especially if you are experiencing abnormal bleeding. While cervical cancer can cause irregular bleeding, it is essential to remember that there are many other, more common reasons for prolonged menstrual bleeding. A thorough evaluation by your healthcare provider, including a pelvic exam, Pap smear, and possibly imaging studies, can help rule out serious conditions like cancer.
It is also important to consider lifestyle factors that may contribute to menstrual irregularities. Stress, significant weight changes, and excessive exercise can all impact hormonal balance and menstrual cycles. If you are experiencing significant stress or changes in your routine, addressing these factors may also help improve your symptoms.
In terms of management, it is crucial to follow up with your gynecologist if the bleeding continues or worsens. They may recommend further testing, such as an ultrasound to check for fibroids or polyps, or blood tests to assess for anemia or hormonal imbalances. Depending on the findings, treatment options may include hormonal therapies, such as birth control pills or intrauterine devices (IUDs), or surgical options if structural abnormalities are found.
In summary, while prolonged menstrual bleeding can be concerning, it is essential to approach the situation with a clear understanding of potential causes and treatment options. Regular follow-up with your healthcare provider is crucial to ensure that any underlying issues are addressed and to provide you with peace of mind. Remember, you are not alone in this, and there are effective treatments available to help manage your symptoms and restore your menstrual health.
