The effects of this patch?
Hello~ Recently, I have been seeing a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, but the doctor did not provide a detailed explanation of my symptoms.
I was prescribed several herbal remedies: Warming the Channels Decoction (温经汤), Sang Ji Sheng (桑寄生), Xu Duan (续断), Yin Yang Huo (淫羊藿), Tu Si Zi (菟丝子), and Dang Gui Shao Yao San (当归芍药散).
I experience a heavier flow with blood clots during my menstrual period, which is consistently 28 days and lasts for five days.
I am planning to conceive, but I have not had any success in the past six months.
Is this herbal formula intended to enhance fertility? Thank you.
SS, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2013/02/27
Dr. Yan Sumei reply Traditional Chinese Medicine
Dear SS,
I am glad to receive your letter! Are Wenjing Decoction, Sangjisheng, Xuduan, Yin Yang Huo, Tu Si Zi, and Danggui Shaoyao San formulas effective for enhancing fertility? Yes, these traditional Chinese medicines have a regulatory effect on the uterine environment in women and can be beneficial for conception.
When it comes to pregnancy, emotional state is very important; the less you focus on the act of conceiving, the more likely you are to become pregnant.
Conversely, the more you desire it, the less likely it seems to happen.
Many people find that when they travel or take a break, and their mood is uplifted, they suddenly conceive when they let everything else go.
You might want to give it a try.
This is my response to you.
I hope you find it satisfactory.
Wishing you all your heart's desires and smooth sailing in everything!
Sincerely,
Yen Su-Mei

More Info
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been utilized for centuries to address various health concerns, including fertility enhancement. The herbal formulas you mentioned—Wen Jing Tang, Sang Ji Sheng, Xu Duan, Yin Yang Huo, Tu Si Zi, and Dang Gui Shao Yao San—are indeed commonly used in TCM to improve reproductive health and support conception.
Understanding the Herbal Ingredients
1. Wen Jing Tang (Warm the Menses Decoction): This formula is designed to warm the uterus and improve blood circulation. It is often prescribed for women who experience coldness in the uterus, which can lead to menstrual irregularities and difficulties in conception.
2. Sang Ji Sheng (Mulberry Mistletoe): This herb is known for its ability to tonify the liver and kidneys, nourish blood, and strengthen the body's overall vitality. It is particularly beneficial for women who may have a deficiency in these areas, which can affect fertility.
3. Xu Duan (Dipsacus Root): Traditionally used to support the kidneys and strengthen the lower back, Xu Duan is believed to help with reproductive health by promoting blood flow and nourishing the uterus.
4. Yin Yang Huo (Epimedium): Often referred to as "Horny Goat Weed," this herb is known for its ability to enhance libido and improve sexual function. It is also thought to support kidney health, which is crucial for reproductive health.
5. Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta Seed): This herb is used to tonify the kidneys and nourish the essence. It is particularly beneficial for women with a deficiency in kidney energy, which can impact fertility.
6. Dang Gui Shao Yao San (Tangkuei and Peony Powder): This formula is often used to nourish blood and regulate menstruation. It can help alleviate symptoms associated with blood deficiency, such as irregular periods and excessive menstrual bleeding.
The Role of TCM in Fertility
In TCM, fertility is closely linked to the balance of "Qi" (vital energy), blood, and the health of the kidneys and liver. A deficiency in any of these areas can lead to difficulties in conception. The herbs mentioned above work synergistically to address these deficiencies, improve blood circulation, and create a more favorable environment for conception.
Emotional and Lifestyle Factors
It's also important to consider emotional and lifestyle factors when trying to conceive. Stress and anxiety can significantly impact fertility. TCM emphasizes the importance of maintaining a calm and balanced state of mind. Engaging in relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga, can be beneficial. Additionally, maintaining a healthy diet, getting adequate sleep, and avoiding overexertion are crucial for overall reproductive health.
Duration of Treatment
As with any treatment, patience is key. TCM often requires a longer duration to see results, typically around three to six months, depending on individual circumstances. Regular follow-ups with your TCM practitioner can help monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
Conclusion
In summary, the herbal formula prescribed to you is indeed aimed at enhancing fertility by addressing underlying deficiencies and promoting a healthy uterine environment. However, it is essential to maintain open communication with your TCM practitioner about your symptoms and any concerns you may have. They can provide tailored advice and adjustments to your treatment plan as needed. Additionally, consider integrating lifestyle changes that promote emotional well-being and physical health to further support your journey toward conception.
