Penile skin laceration?

Hello! I have a skin tear in the area just below the glans, possibly from an injury during intercourse.
Should I refrain from sexual activity until it is fully healed? I have been applying an antifungal cream (Miconazole cream) that was prescribed by a doctor, who mentioned that I injured myself due to excessive force, and it is not a sexually transmitted infection.
The wound has slightly healed over the past week, but there is still some pain when I gently pull on it, and the skin feels very thin.
I'm concerned that engaging in sexual activity again might cause it to tear.
It seems like the healing process is slow! Do I need to abstain from sexual activity? How many days should I wait? I have been using extra lubrication during intercourse, which seems to help.
I wash with plain water when I shower; should I apply Betadine afterward, or should I use petroleum jelly? Currently, the skin looks very thin, and it feels like it could tear if I pull too hard.
I sincerely ask for your advice! Thank you!

Felix: Hello! 1.
If there is an injury with an open wound that continues to break the skin, it can lead to scarring, which may cause pain during erections in the future.
2.
You can clean the area and apply petroleum jelly.
3.
It is more appropriate to engage in sexual activity only after the epidermis has completely healed.

When it comes to skin tears or injuries in sensitive areas such as the penis, it is crucial to approach healing with care and patience. The skin in this region is delicate, and any trauma can lead to pain, discomfort, and prolonged healing times. Based on your description, it seems that the injury occurred during sexual activity, which is not uncommon, especially if there is a lack of adequate lubrication or if there is vigorous movement.

Healing Time and Practices
1. Healing Time: The healing time for skin tears can vary significantly depending on the severity of the injury. Minor tears may heal within a few days to a week, while deeper or more extensive injuries can take longer. Since you mentioned that the wound has shown some improvement over the past week but still feels tender, it is advisable to give it more time to heal completely before resuming sexual activity. Generally, if you are still experiencing pain or if the skin feels thin and fragile, it is best to wait until you are pain-free and the skin appears to be fully healed.

2. Abstinence: It is recommended to abstain from sexual activity until the area is completely healed. Engaging in sexual activity too soon can exacerbate the injury, leading to further tearing and a longer recovery period. If you are experiencing pain during light pulling or stretching, this is a sign that the area is still sensitive and not ready for sexual activity.

3. Lubrication: You mentioned using additional lubrication, which is a good practice. Adequate lubrication can help reduce friction and prevent further injury during sexual activity. Consider using water-based or silicone-based lubricants, as they are generally safe for sensitive skin and can help minimize discomfort.

4. Cleaning and Care: After washing with water, it is essential to keep the area clean and dry. Using a mild, unscented soap can help, but avoid harsh soaps or scrubs that can irritate the skin. Applying a topical antiseptic like iodine can help prevent infection, but be cautious with its use, as it can also be drying. If you choose to use Vaseline (petroleum jelly), it can provide a protective barrier and keep the area moisturized, which may aid in healing.

5. Monitoring for Infection: Keep an eye on the injury for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.

Conclusion
In summary, it is advisable to refrain from sexual activity until the skin has fully healed. Continue to use lubrication during any activities that may cause friction, and maintain proper hygiene. If the injury does not improve or worsens, consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and treatment. Remember, patience is key in the healing process, and taking the necessary precautions will help ensure a full recovery.
