My stool color is dark green?
I have a record of three gastroscopies, and my most recent stool color is dark green (as seen on toilet paper).
The previous two gastroscopies revealed issues with gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, but this time the stool color is something I haven't experienced before.
I would like to know what this could be a sign of.

Black or non-yellow stool may indicate poor internal health.
I don't believe it is related to gastric ulcers.
Drinking yogurt can help improve internal health.
Additionally, if there are genuine concerns about colon issues, a colonoscopy can be performed.

Dark green stool can be concerning, especially for someone with a history of gastrointestinal issues like ulcers. However, it is essential to understand that stool color can be influenced by various factors, including diet, medications, and underlying health conditions.
Firstly, dietary choices play a significant role in the color of your stool. Consuming foods that are rich in chlorophyll, such as leafy green vegetables (like spinach and kale), can lead to dark green stools. Additionally, foods high in iron, such as certain meats or iron supplements, can also contribute to this color change. If you have recently increased your intake of these foods or started taking iron supplements, this could explain the change in stool color.
Moreover, certain medications and supplements can affect stool color. For instance, medications containing bismuth (often used to treat stomach issues) can cause dark stools. If you are taking any new medications or supplements, it might be worth considering their potential effects on your stool color.
However, in some cases, dark green stool can indicate a more serious issue. It may suggest that food is moving through the intestines too quickly, preventing bile from breaking down completely, which can occur in conditions like diarrhea. If you have experienced any gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, or if the dark green stool persists, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional.
Given your history of gastric ulcers, it is particularly important to monitor any new symptoms. While dark green stool alone is not necessarily a sign of a serious condition, it could be a symptom of an underlying issue, especially if accompanied by other gastrointestinal symptoms.
In your case, since you have had previous episodes of gastric ulcers, it would be prudent to schedule a follow-up appointment with your gastroenterologist. They may recommend further evaluation, such as stool tests or imaging studies, to rule out any complications or new developments in your gastrointestinal health.
In summary, while dark green stool can often be attributed to dietary factors, it is essential to consider your overall health context, especially with your history of ulcers. If you have any concerns or if the stool color persists, seeking medical advice is the best course of action to ensure your health and peace of mind.
