The skin in the pubic area may become irritated, but there are no parasites present?
Hello doctor, I initially had balanitis and saw a doctor, and then the balanitis healed.
After a while, the area under my groin also improved.
Now, the skin in my pubic area is itchy, especially where my pants are tight.
However, when I apply some talcum powder during the itchy episodes, it alleviates the itch.
I also experience itching when I feel hot and sweaty at night.
What kind of skin condition could this be, and what medication should I apply? There are small red bumps in some areas, and the skin in certain places appears slightly darker.

More Info
Itchy skin in the groin area can be a common issue and may arise from various causes, including infections, irritations, or skin conditions. Given your description, it seems you have experienced a few different symptoms, including a previous case of balanitis (inflammation of the glans), which has resolved, but you are now dealing with persistent itching and irritation in the groin area.
Possible Causes
1. Fungal Infections: One of the most common causes of itching in the groin area is a fungal infection, such as tinea cruris, commonly known as jock itch. This condition is characterized by a red, itchy rash that often appears in warm, moist areas of the body, including the groin. It can be exacerbated by tight clothing, sweating, and poor ventilation.
2. Contact Dermatitis: This is an allergic reaction or irritation caused by contact with certain substances, such as soaps, detergents, or even the fabric of your clothing. If your pants are tight and rub against your skin, this could lead to irritation.
3. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles, which can occur in the groin area due to friction, sweating, or bacterial infection. It may present as small red bumps or pustules.
4. Eczema: Atopic dermatitis or eczema can also occur in the groin area, leading to itchy, inflamed skin. This condition is often chronic and can flare up due to various triggers, including stress, allergens, or irritants.
5. Heat Rash: In hot and humid conditions, sweat can become trapped in the skin, leading to a heat rash characterized by small red bumps and itching.
Treatment Options
1. Antifungal Creams: If a fungal infection is suspected, over-the-counter antifungal creams (like clotrimazole or miconazole) can be effective. Apply as directed until the symptoms resolve.
2. Hydrocortisone Cream: For mild itching and inflammation, a low-potency hydrocortisone cream can help reduce symptoms. However, it should not be used for prolonged periods without medical advice, especially in sensitive areas.
3. Moisturizers: Keeping the area well-moisturized can help if dryness or eczema is contributing to the itching. Use a fragrance-free moisturizer to avoid irritation.
4. Avoid Irritants: Identify and avoid any potential irritants, such as harsh soaps or tight clothing. Opt for loose-fitting, breathable fabrics to reduce friction and moisture buildup.
5. Antihistamines: If itching is severe, oral antihistamines may provide relief, especially if there is an allergic component.
6. Powders: Using talcum powder or cornstarch can help absorb moisture and reduce friction, which may alleviate itching.
Prevention
To prevent future occurrences of itching in the groin area, consider the following tips:
- Maintain Hygiene: Regularly wash the area with mild soap and water, and ensure it is thoroughly dried afterward.
- Wear Breathable Fabrics: Choose underwear made from natural fibers like cotton, which allow for better airflow.
- Stay Dry: If you are prone to sweating, consider using moisture-wicking fabrics during physical activity.
- Avoid Tight Clothing: Loose-fitting clothes can help reduce friction and irritation.
- Manage Heat: In hot weather, try to stay cool and dry to prevent heat rash.
If your symptoms persist or worsen despite these measures, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional or dermatologist for a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment plan. They may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend tests to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
