Circumcision?
It has been 7 days since the circumcision, and I'm experiencing discomfort, unsure if it's from the stitches or sensitivity at the tip.
If I take a bath, will it cause discomfort? How long does it usually take to get used to this sensation? Is it normal for the left side to be swollen longer? The right side feels okay, but the left side is still quite uncomfortable.
Should I go without pants or wear them to adapt more quickly?

Hello, after surgery, the wound will take about 1-2 months to fully heal.
Initially, due to the exposure of the glans, there may be increased sensitivity.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask again so we can discuss and research together.

Post-circumcision recovery can be a sensitive and uncomfortable process, especially during the first few weeks following the procedure. It is common for patients to experience heightened sensitivity, discomfort, and swelling in the area, particularly around the glans (the head of the penis). These sensations can vary from person to person, and it is not unusual for one side to feel more swollen or sensitive than the other, as you have described.
In the first week after circumcision, the healing process is still underway, and it is essential to follow proper care guidelines to minimize discomfort and promote healing. Here are some key points to consider regarding your recovery:
1. Sensitivity and Discomfort: It is normal to experience increased sensitivity in the glans after circumcision. This is because the glans, which was previously covered by the foreskin, is now exposed and may take time to adjust to this new environment. The sensitivity should gradually decrease over time, typically within a few weeks to a couple of months, as the skin becomes accustomed to being exposed.
2. Bathing and Hygiene: When it comes to bathing, it is generally advisable to avoid submerging the area in water (such as in a bathtub) until the healing is more advanced, usually around two weeks post-surgery. Instead, you can take showers and gently clean the area with mild soap and water. If you do choose to soak in a bath, be cautious, as it may cause discomfort or irritation. Always ensure that the area is thoroughly dried afterward.
3. Swelling: Swelling can vary from side to side, and it is not uncommon for one side to take longer to heal than the other. If the swelling persists or worsens, it is important to consult your healthcare provider to rule out any complications, such as infection.
4. Clothing Choices: Regarding whether to wear underwear or go without, it is generally recommended to wear loose-fitting underwear to provide support and minimize friction against the sensitive area. Tight clothing can exacerbate discomfort and irritation. Opting for breathable fabrics can also help reduce sensitivity and promote comfort during the healing process.
5. Time to Adapt: The time it takes to adapt to the new sensitivity can vary. Most individuals find that their sensitivity decreases significantly within a few weeks, but it may take longer for some. If you find that the discomfort is persistent or significantly impacting your daily life, it is advisable to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management options.
6. Pain Management: If you are experiencing significant discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be helpful. However, always consult with your healthcare provider before taking any medication to ensure it is appropriate for your situation.
In summary, while sensitivity and discomfort are common after circumcision, they should gradually improve over time. Pay attention to your body, maintain good hygiene, and consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns about your recovery process. They can provide personalized advice and reassurance based on your specific situation.
