Blood after wiping following a bowel movement?
I previously experienced occasional pain during bowel movements, possibly due to harder stools, which resulted in some blood on the tissue.
There were also times when I did not feel pain but still noticed blood.
However, today's situation is different; I did not feel any pain, but there was blood on the tissue (about the size of a ten-dollar coin), and the blood was bright red and seemed slightly thick.
The water in the toilet was also slightly tinged red.
(The amount of blood in the last two days seems to be a bit more than before.) My bowel movements are normal, occurring once a day, although I have been eating fewer fruits and vegetables lately.
Should I observe this for a few more days, or should I seek medical attention directly? (There is no family history of related cancers.)

Post-defecation anal pain accompanied by slight bleeding at your age is likely caused by an anal fissure.
If the pain is not severe, it is recommended to take warm sitz baths, which can help with healing in about one to two weeks.
However, if the pain is intense and there is significant bleeding, it is advisable to consult a physician for further evaluation.

When it comes to noticing blood after wiping, especially in the context of bowel movements, it can understandably cause concern. The presence of bright red blood, particularly if it is a small amount and does not accompany pain, can often be attributed to several benign causes. However, it is essential to approach this symptom with caution and awareness.
The bright red color of the blood typically indicates that it is fresh and likely originates from the lower gastrointestinal tract, such as the rectum or anus. Common causes of this type of bleeding include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or minor injuries to the anal area, especially if you have experienced hard stools or straining during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus that can cause discomfort and bleeding, particularly during bowel movements. Anal fissures, which are small tears in the lining of the anus, can also lead to bleeding and are often associated with pain during and after bowel movements.
Given that you mentioned a change in your diet, particularly a decrease in fruits and vegetables, this could contribute to harder stools, which may increase the risk of developing hemorrhoids or fissures. A diet rich in fiber is crucial for maintaining regular bowel movements and preventing constipation, which can exacerbate these conditions.
While the absence of pain is a positive sign, it is still important to monitor the situation closely. If the bleeding persists, increases in volume, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, changes in bowel habits, or weight loss, it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination, which may include a digital rectal exam or other diagnostic procedures, to determine the underlying cause of the bleeding.
In summary, while occasional bright red blood after wiping can often be benign, especially in the context of dietary changes and hard stools, it is essential to remain vigilant. If the symptoms do not resolve or worsen, or if you have any concerns about your health, do not hesitate to consult a healthcare professional. Early intervention can help address any potential issues and provide peace of mind.
