I saw online that some people recommend using a nasal irrigator, so I bought a manual Sinucleanse nasal irrigator.
After using it, I felt much better; the phlegm decreased significantly, and the nasal congestion was not as severe.
However, I came across some information online about a case in the U.S.
where someone died from an amoebic infection after using a nasal irrigator.

Additionally, I read that nasal irrigation might lead to otitis media, or that frequent nasal rinsing could cause olfactory issues or damage to the nasal passages.
Therefore, I would like to ask the doctor if using the nasal irrigator twice a day (morning and evening) could have any side effects.

Hello, generally, normal use should not cause significant side effects, except for a few cases that may lead to issues with the Eustachian tube, such as otitis media or Eustachian tube dysfunction.
However, it is unlikely to affect the sense of smell.
It is recommended to use saline solution for nasal irrigation; if you wish to prepare it yourself, you can mix 1000 mL of water with 9 grams of salt.
It is advisable not to use tap water; instead, boiled water or purified water from reverse osmosis (RO) systems is preferable.
