The heart feels strange?
Hello, Doctor! In the past, I experienced sharp chest pain a couple of times when I bent down to pick something up after eating.
I often go to the hospital to check my heart rate, which is almost always around 120 beats per minute, and I'm not sure if that's normal.
Previously, I could drink bubble tea without any issues, but since I was 12 or 13 years old, I feel dizzy and my heart races after drinking it.
Sometimes, I also feel dizzy and nauseous after consuming tea, coffee, or soda, while other times I feel fine.
I often need to take deep breaths to feel more comfortable.
I hope you can help me with this! Thank you very much!

Hello, the symptoms you mentioned may be related to autonomic nervous system dysfunction, which can include palpitations, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and dizziness.
Beverages with high caffeine content, as well as insufficient sleep, stress, and emotional factors, can all potentially trigger these symptoms.

More Info
When it comes to understanding heart symptoms and knowing when to seek medical advice, it's crucial to recognize the signs that may indicate a serious underlying condition. Based on your description, there are several symptoms that warrant attention, and I will elaborate on these below.
Key Symptoms to Watch For
1. Chest Pain or Discomfort: You mentioned experiencing sharp chest pain when bending down. Chest pain can be a sign of various conditions, including heart problems. While not all chest pain is related to the heart, any recurrent or severe pain should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
2. Rapid Heart Rate: A resting heart rate of 120 beats per minute is considered tachycardia and can be concerning, especially if it occurs frequently. While factors like anxiety, caffeine intake, or dehydration can cause temporary increases in heart rate, persistent tachycardia should be investigated to rule out arrhythmias or other cardiac issues.
3. Dizziness and Nausea: Feeling dizzy or nauseous after consuming certain beverages, such as tea or coffee, could indicate sensitivity to caffeine or other stimulants. However, these symptoms can also be associated with cardiovascular issues, especially if they occur alongside other symptoms like palpitations or chest pain.
4. Shortness of Breath: The need to take deep breaths for comfort can be a sign of anxiety or respiratory issues, but it can also indicate heart problems, especially if accompanied by other symptoms.
When to Seek Medical Attention
You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:
- Severe or persistent chest pain: Especially if it radiates to the arm, neck, or jaw.
- Shortness of breath: Particularly if it occurs at rest or with minimal exertion.
- Dizziness or fainting: Especially if it happens suddenly or is accompanied by other symptoms.
- Palpitations: If you feel your heart racing or fluttering, especially if it lasts for several minutes or is associated with other symptoms.
- Unexplained fatigue: If you feel unusually tired without a clear reason, it could be a sign of heart issues.
Recommendations for Your Situation
Given your symptoms, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider, preferably a cardiologist. They may recommend tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, or even a Holter monitor to assess your heart's rhythm over a 24-hour period. These tests can help determine if there are any underlying arrhythmias or structural heart issues.
In the meantime, consider the following lifestyle modifications:
- Limit Caffeine Intake: Since you mentioned feeling dizzy after consuming caffeinated beverages, it may be beneficial to reduce your intake to see if your symptoms improve.
- Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can exacerbate heart rate issues and dizziness.
- Manage Stress: Stress and anxiety can significantly impact heart rate and overall cardiovascular health. Techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or regular exercise can help manage stress levels.
- Regular Check-ups: Regular visits to your healthcare provider can help monitor your heart health and catch any potential issues early.
Conclusion
While some of your symptoms may be benign, they should not be ignored, especially given the history of rapid heart rates and chest pain. Seeking medical advice is essential to ensure that any potential heart conditions are identified and managed appropriately. Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to heart health.
