Odor of the genital area?
Hello doctor, I have not undergone circumcision, and my glans can normally be exposed when erect.
This may lead to a stronger odor from my penis (possibly due to the fluid that comes out from the tip of the glans when aroused), which makes my partner less willing to perform oral sex during intimacy.
Could you please advise me on how to clean my penis (or the fluid that is released during arousal) to reduce the odor? Are there any specialized products available on the market for cleaning male genital odors? Thank you for your recommendations.

Hello, regarding cleanliness, it needs to be performed daily.
Generally, plain water is sufficient.
Washing before sexual activity can help eliminate odors.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again for further discussion and research.

Managing odor and cleanliness for uncircumcised men is an important aspect of personal hygiene that can significantly impact both comfort and intimate relationships. Here are some guidelines to help you maintain cleanliness and reduce odor:
Daily Cleaning Routine
1. Gentle Washing: It is essential to clean the penis daily, especially if you are uncircumcised. Use warm water to rinse the area thoroughly. If you choose to use soap, opt for a mild, unscented soap to avoid irritation. Avoid harsh soaps or products with strong fragrances, as these can disrupt the natural balance of the skin and lead to irritation or allergic reactions.
2. Retracting the Foreskin: If you are uncircumcised, gently retract the foreskin during washing to clean the glans (the head of the penis) and the area underneath. This area can accumulate smegma, a combination of dead skin cells, oils, and moisture, which can contribute to odor if not cleaned regularly.
3. Drying: After washing, it’s crucial to dry the area thoroughly. You can use a clean towel or a soft cloth. If you prefer, you can also use cotton balls or pads to gently dab the area dry, which can help avoid any irritation that might come from using rougher materials.
Managing Odor
1. Regular Hygiene: Consistent hygiene practices are key to preventing odor. Make it a habit to wash your genital area daily, especially after sweating or engaging in sexual activity.
2. Clothing Choices: Wear breathable, moisture-wicking underwear made from natural fibers like cotton. This can help reduce moisture buildup and allow for better airflow, which can minimize odor.
3. Diet and Hydration: Sometimes, body odor can be influenced by diet. Foods like garlic, onions, and certain spices can contribute to stronger body odors. Staying well-hydrated can also help dilute odors in sweat.
4. Specialized Products: There are products specifically designed for male intimate hygiene that can help manage odor. Look for pH-balanced washes or wipes that are formulated for sensitive skin. These products can help cleanse the area without causing irritation.
Addressing Concerns with Partners
If you notice that your partner is hesitant about oral sex due to odor, it’s important to communicate openly. Discussing hygiene practices and ensuring that both partners feel comfortable can enhance intimacy. You might also consider showering together before engaging in sexual activity, which can be a fun way to ensure cleanliness and comfort.
When to Seek Medical Advice
If you notice persistent odor despite good hygiene practices, or if you experience any unusual symptoms such as irritation, redness, or discharge, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional. These could be signs of an infection or other medical conditions that may require treatment.
In summary, maintaining cleanliness and managing odor for uncircumcised men involves a combination of daily washing, proper drying techniques, and the use of suitable products. By adopting these practices, you can enhance your personal hygiene and improve your intimate experiences.
