Small white spots on the inner lining of the mouth?
Recently, I have developed several small white spots on the right side of the inner cheek, each less than 0.1mm in size.
They are not painful and there is no bleeding or other symptoms.
When I feel them with my tongue, they have a raised texture that feels both soft and hard at times.
Here is the picture I took: http://i.imgur.com/Y1chaeN.jpg.
What could this be, doctor?

The above condition may be due to mechanical irritation of the oral mucosa, or it could be a disruption in the immune system caused by stress or poor sleep, manifesting as symptoms in the oral mucosa.
It is recommended to consult a dentist for further diagnosis and treatment.

The presence of small white bumps inside your mouth can be concerning, especially when they appear suddenly and without accompanying symptoms like pain or bleeding. Based on your description, these bumps are likely to be benign, but it is essential to consider various potential causes.
One common cause of small white bumps in the oral cavity is oral mucosal lesions, which can include conditions such as oral thrush, canker sores, or mucoceles. Oral thrush, caused by an overgrowth of the Candida fungus, typically presents as white patches that can be scraped off, revealing a red, inflamed surface underneath. Canker sores, on the other hand, are painful ulcers that can appear as white or yellowish lesions with a red halo, usually resolving on their own within a week or two.
Another possibility is fibromas or papillomas, which are benign growths that can appear as small, soft bumps in the mouth. These are usually harmless and may require no treatment unless they become bothersome or change in appearance.
If the bumps are soft and fluctuate in firmness, they could also be mucoceles, which are cyst-like lesions that occur when a salivary gland is blocked or damaged. They often resolve on their own but can be removed if they persist or cause discomfort.
In some cases, small white bumps can be associated with viral infections, such as herpes simplex virus, which can cause lesions that may not always be painful initially. However, if these bumps are not accompanied by other symptoms like fever, swollen lymph nodes, or systemic illness, they are less likely to be related to a viral infection.
It's also important to consider the possibility of oral lichen planus, a chronic inflammatory condition that can present as white patches or bumps in the mouth. This condition is often associated with stress, certain medications, or underlying health issues.
Given that you mentioned these bumps are not painful and do not bleed, they may not be a cause for immediate concern. However, it is crucial to monitor their appearance and any changes over time. If the bumps persist for more than two weeks, change in color, size, or texture, or if you develop any new symptoms (such as pain, swelling, or difficulty eating), it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a dentist or an oral specialist, for a thorough examination.
In summary, while small white bumps in the mouth can arise from various benign conditions, it is essential to keep an eye on them and seek professional advice if there are any changes or concerns. Maintaining good oral hygiene, managing stress, and ensuring a balanced diet can also contribute to oral health and potentially prevent the recurrence of such lesions.
