Growths on the foreskin?
Hello doctor, I recently noticed several raised lesions on my foreskin, about 5 to 6 in total, with the largest being approximately 0.1 cm in size.
They are dark in color (but not black), and they are neither itchy nor painful.
What could this be? Should I seek further examination? If so, which specialty should I consult? Thank you!

Viral warts, seborrheic keratosis, hemangiomas, and fibromas (pearly lesions) are all possibilities and should be evaluated by a dermatologist or urologist.

More Info
When it comes to bumps on the foreskin, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and awareness. The presence of multiple small bumps, especially if they are dark in color and asymptomatic (not itchy or painful), can be concerning but may not always indicate a serious condition. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what these bumps could be, when to seek medical advice, and which specialists to consult.
Possible Causes of Bumps on the Foreskin
1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that often appear in rows around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are common and typically do not require treatment.
2. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that are actually sebaceous (oil) glands. They are normal anatomical variations and are not a cause for concern.
3. Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small, flesh-colored or dark bumps. They may be asymptomatic but can sometimes be itchy or uncomfortable. If you suspect warts, it is advisable to seek medical attention.
4. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can lead to small, red bumps. It is often caused by bacterial infection or irritation.
5. Cysts: Sebaceous cysts can occur in the genital area and may present as small, painless lumps.
6. Other Skin Conditions: Conditions like lichen planus or eczema can also cause bumps or lesions on the skin, including the genital area.
When to Seek Medical Advice
You should consider seeking medical advice if:
- The bumps change in size, color, or shape.
- New symptoms develop, such as itching, pain, or discharge.
- You have concerns about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other conditions.
- You notice any other unusual changes in your genital area.
Which Specialist to Consult
If you decide to seek medical advice, the following specialists are appropriate:
- Urologist: This is a specialist in male reproductive health and urinary tract issues. They can provide a thorough examination and diagnosis of any concerns related to the penis and foreskin.
- Dermatologist: If the bumps appear to be skin-related, a dermatologist can help diagnose and treat various skin conditions, including those affecting the genital area.
Conclusion
In summary, while the bumps you described may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is always prudent to consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation. A urologist or dermatologist can provide the necessary expertise to determine the nature of the bumps and recommend appropriate treatment if needed. Remember, early intervention can help alleviate concerns and ensure your overall health and well-being. If you have any additional symptoms or if the bumps change, do not hesitate to seek medical advice promptly.
