Abdominal discomfort with white sesame seed-like particles in the stool?

I occasionally experience cramping pain in the lower middle abdomen, but it doesn't last long.
I also feel nauseous and have the urge to vomit.
I'm unsure if this is related to my menstrual cycle or if I might have a parasitic infection.
Over the past week or two, I've noticed that my stool is dark green, and in the last couple of days, I've seen small white sesame-like particles in my stool (about 3 to 6 particles).
A couple of days ago, I did eat something that contained a small amount of sesame (a hamburger).
I would like to know if this indicates a parasitic infection and which specialty I should consult.
I'm quite worried because I read online that parasites can enter the systemic circulation under certain conditions.
What are those specific conditions? Thank you, doctor.

Dr. Lin Minghui reply Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Hello: Currently, parasitic infections are quite rare, and generally, a stool examination is sufficient to rule them out.
Based on the symptoms, mild gastroenteritis or indigestion is the most likely cause.
Wishing you safety and health.
Sincerely, Dr.
Chen Chih-Feng, Gastroenterology Department, Taoyuan General Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Abdominal pain accompanied by unusual stool characteristics can be concerning, especially when you notice changes such as the presence of white sesame-like particles in your stool. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing intermittent abdominal pain, nausea, and changes in stool color and consistency.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that the human digestive system can react to various factors, including dietary changes, stress, and infections. The deep green color of your stool may be attributed to several factors, including the consumption of certain foods (like leafy greens or food coloring), bile pigments, or rapid transit through the intestines, which can prevent the normal breakdown of bile.
The white sesame-like particles you mentioned could potentially be undigested food, especially if you recently consumed sesame seeds. However, if these particles persist or are accompanied by other symptoms such as diarrhea, significant abdominal pain, or changes in appetite, it may warrant further investigation.
Regarding your concerns about parasitic infections, it’s true that certain parasites can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, including abdominal pain and changes in stool. Common intestinal parasites include Giardia, roundworms, and tapeworms. Symptoms of parasitic infections can vary widely, and while some individuals may experience severe symptoms, others may have mild or even asymptomatic infections.
The entry of parasites into the systemic circulation is usually associated with specific conditions, such as severe infections or compromised immune systems. For example, certain parasites can invade tissues and may lead to systemic symptoms if they migrate outside the gastrointestinal tract. However, this is relatively rare and typically occurs in more severe cases.

Given your symptoms, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. You should consider visiting a gastroenterologist, who specializes in digestive system disorders. They can perform necessary evaluations, including stool tests to check for parasites, infections, or other gastrointestinal issues.
In the meantime, keep track of your symptoms, including the frequency and characteristics of your abdominal pain and stool changes. Note any additional symptoms such as fever, weight loss, or changes in appetite, as these can provide valuable information to your healthcare provider.
In conclusion, while your symptoms could be related to dietary factors or mild gastrointestinal disturbances, it’s essential to seek medical advice to rule out any serious conditions, including parasitic infections. Early diagnosis and treatment can help alleviate your concerns and ensure your health is monitored appropriately.
