There is a small white area on the blood vessels at the back of the glans?
Hello, Dr.
Hsu.
Before I describe my symptoms, please take a look at the image above.
I'm not sure what the issue is.
I have a habit of pushing back the foreskin while showering or urinating, so I often see the blood vessels on the glans, which vary in thickness and are quite normal.
However, recently, due to staying up late or feeling a bit weak, and without any other sexual activity, I noticed a few days ago while showering that there was a little white area at the location shown in the image.
It feels like a blood vessel when touched, and it’s not hard, nor does it cause any irritation, pain, or itching.
I thought it would resolve in a few days, but upon checking again today, it’s still there.
I would like to know if this condition is normal.

When it comes to white spots on the penis, it is important to understand that there are various potential causes, and not all of them are serious. Based on your description and the accompanying image, it seems you are experiencing a condition that may be related to several benign factors. However, it is crucial to approach this situation with caution and awareness of when to seek medical advice.
Firstly, the presence of white spots or patches on the penis can be attributed to several common conditions. These may include:
1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, benign growths that are often found around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are completely normal and do not require treatment.
2. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that are actually enlarged sebaceous (oil) glands. They are harmless and common in many men.
3. Lichen Sclerosus: This is a more serious condition that can cause white patches on the skin, including the genital area. It may lead to discomfort, itching, or pain, and requires medical evaluation and treatment.
4. Fungal Infections: Conditions like candidiasis (yeast infection) can cause white patches and may be accompanied by itching or irritation.
5. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Certain STIs can present with white lesions or spots. If there is any chance of exposure, it is essential to get tested.
Given that you mentioned the white spots do not cause pain, itching, or discomfort, it may lean towards a benign condition. However, the fact that they have persisted for several days warrants further observation. Here are some guidelines on when to seek medical advice:
- Duration: If the white spots do not resolve within a week or two, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider.
- Changes: If you notice any changes in size, color, or texture of the spots, or if new symptoms develop (such as pain, itching, or discharge), seek medical attention promptly.
- Associated Symptoms: If you experience any systemic symptoms such as fever, malaise, or swollen lymph nodes, this could indicate an infection that requires immediate evaluation.
In terms of self-care, maintaining good hygiene is essential. Ensure that the area is clean and dry, and avoid any irritants such as harsh soaps or lotions. If you are experiencing stress or fatigue, as you mentioned, consider lifestyle adjustments to improve your overall health, as stress can sometimes exacerbate skin conditions.
In conclusion, while the presence of white spots on the penis can often be benign, it is essential to monitor the situation closely. If there is any doubt or concern, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for a thorough examination and appropriate guidance. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, especially if a condition requires treatment.
