Constipation, diarrhea, and bleeding within 10 days?
Hello, on the first day I experienced diarrhea (without abdominal pain) with bright red blood in the stool.
On the second day, I had abdominal pain and diarrhea, again with bright red blood in the stool.
On the third and fourth days, I did not have a bowel movement.
On the fifth day, I had abdominal pain and diarrhea, but no blood.
From the sixth to the eighth day, I did not have a bowel movement.
On the ninth day, I had diarrhea (with the urge to go but no abdominal pain), and there was no blood.
Is it normal to have several days of constipation and diarrhea like this? My daily routine and eating habits have not changed, and I usually eat spicy food.
If this is gastroenteritis, would it present these symptoms? However, my appetite has not been as good as before, but I feel okay mentally.
I spend a maximum of 15 minutes in the restroom.
Is it necessary to go to the hospital for a colonoscopy?

Based on the symptoms you've described, it seems that you are experiencing a combination of diarrhea, constipation, and blood in your stool over a span of ten days. This pattern of gastrointestinal distress can be concerning and warrants careful consideration.
Firstly, the presence of bright red blood in your stool, especially when accompanied by diarrhea and abdominal pain, can indicate several potential issues. Bright red blood typically suggests that the bleeding is occurring in the lower gastrointestinal tract, such as the rectum or colon. Common causes of such symptoms include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, diverticulitis, or more serious conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or colorectal cancer, especially if you are experiencing a significant change in bowel habits.
Your symptoms of alternating diarrhea and constipation, along with the blood in your stool, could suggest a condition like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which can cause changes in bowel habits and abdominal discomfort. However, the presence of blood is a red flag that should not be ignored. While IBS is a functional disorder and does not typically cause bleeding, the blood could indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
The fact that you have experienced days of constipation followed by diarrhea could also suggest a possible obstruction or a functional issue with your bowel. In some cases, constipation can lead to fecal impaction, which can then cause diarrhea as liquid stool leaks around the impacted stool. This could explain the alternating symptoms you are experiencing.
Given that your appetite has decreased and you are experiencing these gastrointestinal symptoms without any significant changes in your diet or lifestyle, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare professional may recommend a thorough evaluation, which could include blood tests, stool tests, and possibly imaging studies or a colonoscopy to assess the health of your gastrointestinal tract.
In terms of whether you should undergo a colonoscopy, it is generally recommended if you have persistent symptoms, especially if you are experiencing blood in your stool, significant changes in bowel habits, or if you have any concerning symptoms such as weight loss, severe abdominal pain, or fatigue. A colonoscopy can help identify any structural issues, inflammation, or other abnormalities in the colon.
In summary, while some gastrointestinal disturbances can be benign and self-limiting, the presence of blood in your stool, along with the changes in your bowel habits, suggests that you should consult a healthcare provider. They can perform the necessary evaluations to rule out any serious conditions and provide you with appropriate treatment options. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to gastrointestinal symptoms, especially when blood is involved.
