Managing Post-Procedure Care: Using Meikang Ointment and Su Bei Powder - Pharmacology

MeiKang Cream and SuBei Powder

I had a procedure in the urology department where the doctor performed electrocautery on the glans penis, specifically in the coronal sulcus area.
Initially, I was prescribed Mecon cream to apply for a week before my follow-up appointment.
During the follow-up, I mentioned that the wound was slightly oozing blood, and the doctor advised me to purchase a hemostatic powder to use each time I go to the bathroom.
He instructed me to sprinkle the powder first and then apply the cream.
However, during the second application, after sprinkling the powder and applying the cream, there was significant bleeding.
I quickly dried the area and used the hemostatic powder to stop the bleeding.
After that, I applied a very thin layer of cream around the wound, avoiding contact with the deeper bleeding area.
The doctor only sees patients twice a week.
Should I continue using Mecon cream for healing? Will it help the wound to heal? (P.S.
There are four wounds, but only one is deeper and has bled; my foreskin is still intact, and I retract it to cover the entire glans after applying the medication.) Thank you for your response.

Managing post-procedure care, especially after a procedure like electrocautery on the glans, requires careful attention to wound care to promote healing and prevent complications. In your case, you have been prescribed Meikang Ointment (美康乳膏) and advised to use Su Bei Powder (速備粉) for managing the wound.
Meikang Ointment is typically used for its soothing and healing properties, often containing ingredients that help to moisturize and protect the skin. It can be effective in promoting healing in superficial wounds. On the other hand, Su Bei Powder is often used to absorb moisture and help control bleeding, which can be particularly useful in areas that are prone to irritation or where there is a risk of infection.

From your description, it seems that you experienced some bleeding when applying the ointment after the powder. This could be due to several factors, including the depth of the wound, the application technique, or the timing of the applications. It is crucial to ensure that the wound is not disturbed excessively, as this can lead to further bleeding or irritation.

Here are some recommendations for managing your post-procedure care:
1. Continue Using Meikang Ointment: Since your doctor initially prescribed it, you can continue using it, but be cautious about how you apply it. Apply a very thin layer to avoid excessive pressure on the wound.
2. Use Su Bei Powder Wisely: When using Su Bei Powder, make sure to apply it gently and avoid rubbing it into the wound. It should be used primarily to control bleeding and absorb any moisture. If you notice any bleeding, apply the powder first to help stop it before applying the ointment.

3. Timing of Applications: It may be beneficial to space out the applications of the powder and the ointment. For instance, you could apply the powder after using the restroom and allow it to settle before applying the ointment. This might reduce the risk of disturbing the wound.

4. Monitor for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye on the wound for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important to contact your healthcare provider.

5. Follow-Up with Your Doctor: Given that your doctor only sees patients every week, it might be worth reaching out to them or their office if you have concerns about the bleeding or if the wound does not seem to be healing properly. They may provide additional guidance or adjust your treatment plan.

6. Gentle Care: When cleaning the area, be gentle and avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs. Pat the area dry instead of rubbing it.

7. Avoid Irritants: Be cautious with any products that may irritate the area, including scented soaps or lotions.

In conclusion, while Meikang Ointment can aid in the healing process, it is essential to apply it carefully and in conjunction with Su Bei Powder to manage bleeding effectively. If you have any concerns about your healing process or if the bleeding continues, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health and recovery are paramount, and proper wound care is crucial in ensuring a smooth healing process.
