Can you get pregnant if your period hasn't arrived yet?

Hello doctor, my period started on April 20th and I had unprotected intercourse on April 26th, which ended on April 27th.
My period came again on May 20th and ended on May 27th.
I did not have any sexual activity before that, and my periods in June were normal with no sexual activity.
My period started normally on July 3rd and ended on July 9th.
However, on July 25th, my period came again, which was a bit irregular; it lasted for 6 days, with a heavy flow for the first 4 days and light flow for the last 2 days.
Now, as of August 25th, I still have not gotten my period.
Since the unprotected intercourse on April 26th, I have not had any sexual activity.

The last sexual intercourse was on April 26.
If there were a pregnancy, menstruation should not have occurred after April 26.
Since menstruation has occurred in May, June, and July, it indicates that there is no pregnancy.
If you are still concerned, you can purchase a home pregnancy test.
Sincerely, Dr.

When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy after unprotected sex, several factors need to be considered, particularly the timing of ovulation, the menstrual cycle, and the nature of the sexual encounter. In your case, you had unprotected sex on April 26, and your menstrual cycle has been somewhat irregular since then.
To understand the situation better, let’s break down the menstrual cycle and the factors that influence it. A typical menstrual cycle lasts about 28 days, but it can vary significantly from person to person, ranging from 21 to 35 days. Ovulation usually occurs about 14 days before the start of your next period. Therefore, if your cycle is regular, you would likely have ovulated around April 12-14 if your period started on April 20. Since you had unprotected sex on April 26, this was after your ovulation window, which typically means that the chances of becoming pregnant from that encounter are lower.

However, if your menstrual cycle is irregular, it can complicate things. Irregular cycles can lead to unpredictable ovulation, which means that you might have ovulated later than expected. If you did ovulate later, there is a possibility that the unprotected sex could have resulted in pregnancy.
You mentioned that your period came on May 20 and lasted until May 27, which suggests that you were not pregnant at that time, as a pregnancy would typically prevent menstruation. However, the irregularity of your cycle in July, where you experienced a heavier flow for the first four days and lighter for the last two, could indicate hormonal fluctuations or other underlying issues.
Now, regarding the late period in August, it is important to consider that stress, changes in weight, illness, or hormonal imbalances can all affect your menstrual cycle. If you have not had any sexual encounters since April 26, the likelihood of being pregnant is low, especially since you had a normal period in May and a regular cycle in June.
To confirm whether you are pregnant or not, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period. If the test is negative and your period still does not arrive, it may be wise to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test and possibly an ultrasound to determine if there is any underlying issue affecting your menstrual cycle.

In summary, while the possibility of pregnancy exists after unprotected sex, the timing of your cycle and subsequent periods suggest that you are likely not pregnant. However, if your period remains absent, seeking medical advice is the best course of action to rule out any potential issues.
