Sharp pain in the right testicle?
The right testicle is experiencing sharp pain.
A few weeks ago, it was more uncomfortable, and now the testicles appear somewhat asymmetrical, with the right one hanging lower.
When exerting myself, the left testicle rises while the right one does not seem to rise as much.
Additionally, there is soreness in the right groin area, and gently squeezing the right testicle causes sharp pain.
What could this condition be? Thank you for your help.

Right testicular pain can be concerning and may arise from various causes. Given your symptoms of sharp pain in the right testicle, asymmetry, and discomfort in the groin area, it is essential to consider several potential underlying conditions.
1. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that stores and carries sperm. It can cause pain and swelling in the affected testicle. Epididymitis is often caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or urinary tract infections (UTIs). Symptoms may include pain, swelling, and sometimes fever.
2. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off the blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms typically include sudden, severe pain in one testicle, swelling, and sometimes nausea. Testicular torsion requires immediate medical attention to prevent permanent damage.
3. Inguinal Hernia: An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This can cause discomfort in the groin and may lead to testicular pain. Symptoms can include a noticeable bulge in the groin area and pain that worsens with activity or straining.
4. Varicocele: This condition involves enlarged veins within the scrotum and can lead to a feeling of heaviness or aching in the affected testicle. It is more common on the left side but can occur on the right as well. Varicoceles may not always cause pain but can affect fertility.
5. Trauma or Injury: Any recent trauma to the groin or testicles can lead to pain and swelling. If you have experienced any injury, this could be a contributing factor.
6. Testicular Cancer: While less common, testicular cancer can present as a lump or swelling in the testicle, and it may cause discomfort or pain. It is essential to be aware of any changes in size or shape of the testicles.
Given your symptoms of asymmetry, pain upon palpation, and groin discomfort, it is crucial to seek medical evaluation. A healthcare provider will likely perform a physical examination and may order an ultrasound of the scrotum to assess for any abnormalities, such as swelling, masses, or torsion. Blood tests may also be conducted to check for signs of infection or tumor markers.
In conclusion, while some causes of testicular pain may be benign, others can be serious and require prompt treatment. It is essential not to ignore these symptoms, especially since testicular torsion and certain infections can lead to severe complications if not treated quickly. I recommend scheduling an appointment with a urologist or your primary care physician as soon as possible to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these symptoms early can lead to better outcomes.
