Will internal hemorrhoids heal?

Hello, Dr.
Ke.
Last month, I suspected that diarrhea caused my internal hemorrhoids.
My bowel movements have been very normal, but I experienced diarrhea for a few days, which may have led to the internal hemorrhoids.
I went to the pharmacy to buy Zhengji Xiaozhi pills and have been applying hemorrhoid ointment, and I have noticed some improvement.
However, sometimes I still experience a feeling of swelling, especially after bowel movements.

I have two questions:
1.
If I continue taking the pills and applying the ointment, will the internal hemorrhoids resolve? I feel like I am taking good care of myself, but the hemorrhoids are still present.
They are not large, but I occasionally feel swelling without any bleeding.

2.
The condition has persisted for over a month.
I had not been paying attention to my diet and consumed spicy food and alcohol, but I have avoided these habits for the past two weeks.
Currently, I sometimes experience sudden swelling, and the hemorrhoids have not resolved.
How long might it take for them to disappear? Should I stop taking the pills and seek medical attention instead? Thank you, Dr.
Ke.

1.
Zhengji Xiaozhi Pills do not fall under the category of Western medicine, so I cannot comment on them.
For internal hemorrhoids, continuous use of ointment can improve symptoms, but this is contingent upon the absence of constipation or prolonged straining during bowel movements.
The issue of polyps requires direct visual examination for an accurate assessment, as the medical definition of polyps may differ from the general public's understanding.
2.
If there is no bleeding or pain, it is generally recommended to maintain good lifestyle and dietary habits.
However, if symptoms persist or recur, it is best to consult a physician for evaluation and treatment.

Internal hemorrhoids, also known as piles, can indeed improve with medication and proper care, but the healing process can vary significantly from person to person. It sounds like you have been proactive in managing your symptoms by using over-the-counter medications and topical treatments, which is a good start.
1. Medication and Care: The medications you mentioned, such as the hemorrhoid cream and the oral medication you purchased, can help alleviate symptoms like swelling and discomfort. These treatments often contain ingredients that reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote healing. However, while these medications can help manage symptoms, they may not completely eliminate the hemorrhoids themselves, especially if the underlying causes are not addressed.

2. Diet and Lifestyle Changes: You mentioned that you have been avoiding spicy foods and alcohol, which is excellent. Diet plays a crucial role in managing hemorrhoids. A diet high in fiber can help soften stools and reduce straining during bowel movements, which is essential for healing. Foods rich in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Staying well-hydrated is equally important, as it helps prevent constipation.

3. Duration of Symptoms: The duration for which hemorrhoids persist can vary. In many cases, with proper care and dietary adjustments, symptoms can improve within a few weeks. However, if you continue to experience swelling or discomfort after a month of diligent care, it may be time to consult a healthcare professional. Persistent symptoms could indicate that the hemorrhoids are not healing as expected or that there may be other underlying issues that need to be addressed.

4. When to Seek Medical Attention: If you notice any of the following, it would be wise to seek medical advice:
- Persistent pain or discomfort that does not improve with over-the-counter treatments.

- Bleeding during bowel movements, even if it is minimal.

- A noticeable increase in the size of the hemorrhoids.

- Symptoms that interfere with your daily activities or quality of life.

5. Potential Medical Treatments: If conservative measures do not provide relief, there are several medical treatments available for hemorrhoids. These can include rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or even surgical options in more severe cases. A healthcare provider can evaluate your specific situation and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the severity of your hemorrhoids and your overall health.

In conclusion, while internal hemorrhoids can often heal with medication and lifestyle changes, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you find that your condition does not improve or worsens, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can provide a thorough evaluation and discuss potential treatment options tailored to your needs.
