Hit on the forehead by a stone?
Two days ago, I was hit on the right side of my forehead by a stone, which caused bleeding.
After returning home, I noticed that the right side of my head feels different from the left side; it feels a bit numb.
Aside from this, I don't have any other symptoms.
Is this kind of symptom normal?

Dr. Ke Fangxu reply Surgery
If a stone happens to hit the area where the facial nerve is located, there may be temporary paralysis.
If the injury lasts more than two days, it is recommended to apply a warm compress to reduce swelling and then monitor the condition.
If symptoms do not improve after one week, a consultation with a physician is advised.

More Info
Experiencing numbness after a forehead injury, especially one caused by a blunt object like a stone, can be concerning. It is important to understand the potential implications of such an injury and what symptoms may indicate a need for further medical evaluation.
When you sustain a head injury, the brain and surrounding structures can be affected in various ways. The numbness you are feeling on the right side of your forehead could be due to several factors. First, it is possible that the impact caused some minor nerve irritation or damage. The forehead is innervated by branches of the trigeminal nerve, which can be affected by trauma. If the nerve pathways are disrupted, it can lead to sensations of numbness or tingling in the area.
Another possibility is that the injury caused localized swelling or hematoma (a collection of blood outside of blood vessels) that could be pressing on nearby nerves. This pressure can also lead to altered sensations, including numbness. If the injury was severe enough to cause a fracture or significant soft tissue damage, it could further complicate the situation.
While some degree of numbness can be a normal response to a minor head injury, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms closely. If the numbness persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as severe headache, confusion, dizziness, vision changes, or difficulty speaking, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a more serious condition, such as a concussion or intracranial hemorrhage.
In the absence of other concerning symptoms, the numbness may resolve on its own as the body heals. However, it is advisable to rest and avoid any activities that could risk further injury. Applying ice to the area can help reduce swelling, and over-the-counter pain relievers may alleviate discomfort.
In summary, while some numbness after a forehead injury can be normal, it is vital to remain vigilant about your symptoms. If you have any doubts or if your condition changes, do not hesitate to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. They may recommend imaging studies, such as a CT scan, to rule out any serious injuries and ensure your safety. Always prioritize your health and well-being, especially after a head injury.
