Regarding erection?
Hello doctor, recently while masturbating, I noticed a soft, round lump on the underside of the glans (I am circumcised) that only appears when I am erect.
It feels a bit sensitive to the touch.
I am unsure what it could be...?

When it comes to noticing soft bumps on the penis during an erection, it is essential to approach the situation with a clear understanding of the anatomy and potential conditions that could be involved. The penis has various structures, including blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues, which can sometimes lead to the formation of bumps or lumps.
One common cause of soft bumps that appear during an erection is the presence of Pearly Penile Papules. These are small, soft, dome-shaped bumps that are typically found around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are completely benign and are considered a normal anatomical variant. Pearly penile papules are not associated with any disease and do not require treatment unless they cause psychological distress.
Another possibility could be Fordyce Spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis. These are sebaceous glands that are not associated with hair follicles and are also harmless. They can become more noticeable during an erection due to increased blood flow and engorgement of the tissues.
If the bump you are experiencing is located on the inner side of the glans and is soft and sensitive, it could also be a cyst or a lipoma. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can develop in various parts of the body, including the genital area. Lipomas are benign tumors made of fat tissue. Both conditions are generally harmless but can be evaluated by a healthcare professional if they cause discomfort or concern.
In some cases, the bump could be related to Peyronie's disease, which is characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, leading to curved, painful erections. However, this condition usually presents with more significant symptoms, such as pain or noticeable curvature, rather than just a soft bump.
It is crucial to differentiate between benign conditions and those that may require further evaluation. If the bump is new, changing in size, or associated with other symptoms such as pain, discharge, or changes in urination, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and, if necessary, recommend imaging studies or a biopsy to rule out any serious conditions, including infections or tumors.
In summary, while soft bumps on the penis during an erection can be concerning, many are benign and do not require treatment. However, if there is any doubt or if the bump is accompanied by other symptoms, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Regular self-examinations and being aware of any changes in your body are essential for maintaining sexual health. Always feel comfortable discussing any concerns with a healthcare professional, as they can provide reassurance and appropriate care.
