There is a mass at the vaginal opening that resembles a blood clot?
Hello! I would like to ask why I feel like something is about to come out of my vagina a week before my period, but nothing actually comes out? Also, during the week before my period, I notice light brown spotting or clear discharge with a fishy odor? Last night while showering, I found a soft, red mass at the vaginal opening that looked like a blood clot or tissue.
It was soft and red, resembling a blood clot! I want to pull it out, but I'm afraid it might cause bleeding.
My period hasn't started yet; it came on October 19 last month, and I'm unsure what to expect this month! I'm currently using panty liners because of light bleeding.
Could it be that a large blood clot is stuck, which is why my period hasn't started yet? Thank you for your response! I'm feeling very anxious and worried since I'm currently abroad!

There are many possibilities, including cervical polyps or fibroids.
A physical examination is necessary to determine the exact cause, so please seek medical attention.

Experiencing discomfort and unusual symptoms in the vaginal area before your period can be concerning, and it's important to understand what might be happening. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a combination of premenstrual symptoms, possible hormonal fluctuations, and perhaps some anatomical changes in your body.
Firstly, the sensation of something "wanting to come out" from the vagina, along with the presence of brownish discharge or blood-like clots, can be attributed to several factors. One common cause is hormonal changes that occur in the luteal phase of your menstrual cycle, which is the time between ovulation and the start of your period. During this phase, the body prepares for a potential pregnancy, and if pregnancy does not occur, the hormone levels drop, leading to the shedding of the uterine lining, which is your menstrual flow.
The brownish discharge you mentioned is often old blood that has taken longer to exit the uterus, which is common in the days leading up to menstruation. It can also be a sign of hormonal imbalance, which may cause irregularities in your menstrual cycle. The presence of a "soft, red mass" that resembles a blood clot could be a small piece of endometrial tissue or a clot from your menstrual flow. It is not uncommon for women to pass small clots during their periods, especially if the flow is heavier.
However, if you are experiencing significant discomfort, especially if the sensation of something being "stuck" is accompanied by pain, it is crucial to seek medical attention. While it is possible that what you are experiencing is related to your menstrual cycle, there could be other underlying issues such as fibroids, polyps, or even an infection that may require evaluation by a healthcare professional.
In terms of your concern about a "large blood clot" being stuck, it is unlikely that a clot would prevent your period from starting. Menstrual blood can sometimes pool in the vagina or cervix, especially if you are not actively menstruating, but this typically resolves itself as your period begins. If you feel that you are passing clots or experiencing heavy bleeding, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any serious conditions.
Additionally, the presence of a fishy odor in your discharge could indicate an infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI). These conditions can cause changes in discharge and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
In conclusion, while some of the symptoms you are experiencing can be common and related to your menstrual cycle, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice any significant changes, such as increased pain, heavy bleeding, or unusual odors, please seek medical attention promptly. Your health and peace of mind are important, especially when you are in a different country and may feel more anxious about your symptoms.
