Pregnancy issues
Hello, in October my doctor confirmed that my abortion was completed and told me that my period would come on November 9th, which it did.
My boyfriend and I have been intimate for the past few months, always using protection.
Today, I feel a lot of itching in my intimate area, and it hurts when I scratch it.
I also have been experiencing a clear discharge.
What could be wrong with me? Is there a high chance of pregnancy?

The likelihood of pregnancy is very low when condoms are used consistently.
If there is significant itching in the genital area, it may be due to inflammation, and it is advisable to seek medical attention.
Sincerely, Dr.

It sounds like you are experiencing some concerning symptoms following your recent abortion, and it's important to address these issues carefully. After an abortion, it is common for women to experience a range of physical and emotional symptoms, but persistent or severe symptoms should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Firstly, regarding your symptoms of itching and pain in the genital area, along with the discharge of clear fluid, these could indicate a few possibilities. One common cause of itching and discharge is a yeast infection, which can occur due to hormonal changes or antibiotic use following an abortion. Other potential causes could include bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI). It is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the exact cause of your symptoms and receive appropriate treatment.
As for your concern about the likelihood of pregnancy, if you have been using condoms consistently and correctly during intercourse, the risk of pregnancy is significantly reduced, but not entirely eliminated. Condoms can occasionally fail due to breakage or slippage, so if you are experiencing symptoms that make you suspect pregnancy, such as changes in your body or unusual symptoms, it would be wise to take a home pregnancy test or consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In terms of your menstrual cycle, it is normal for periods to be irregular for a few cycles following an abortion. Your doctor mentioned that your period would return around November 9, and if it did, that is a positive sign that your body is beginning to return to its normal rhythm. However, if you notice any significant changes in your cycle, such as very heavy bleeding, severe pain, or if your period does not return within a reasonable time frame, you should reach out to your healthcare provider.
Additionally, it’s important to monitor your emotional health after an abortion. Many women experience a range of emotions, including relief, sadness, or anxiety. If you find that you are struggling emotionally, consider speaking with a counselor or therapist who specializes in reproductive health.
In summary, while your symptoms may not necessarily indicate a serious issue, they warrant a visit to your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They can help rule out infections, assess your risk of pregnancy, and provide guidance on managing any discomfort you are experiencing. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and seeking professional advice is always the best course of action when you have concerns about your body.
