Testicular issues
I noticed a lump on my left testicle while showering.
The lump sometimes appears small and at other times becomes larger, and sometimes after masturbation, my testicle hurts.
I also see veins near my thigh and I'm concerned that I might have testicular cancer.

When it comes to testicular issues, it's essential to approach the situation with a clear understanding of the symptoms and potential concerns. Based on your description, you have noticed a lump on your left testicle that varies in size, along with pain after masturbation and visible veins in the thigh area. These symptoms can understandably lead to anxiety about conditions such as testicular cancer, but it's important to consider a broader range of possibilities.
Firstly, the presence of a lump in the testicle can be caused by various conditions, not all of which are cancerous. Common causes include:
1. Epididymal Cysts: These are fluid-filled sacs that can develop in the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicle. They are usually benign and may not require treatment unless they cause discomfort.
2. Varicocele: This condition involves enlarged veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins in the legs. It can cause a feeling of heaviness or discomfort and may be associated with visible veins in the groin area.
3. Hydrocele: This is a buildup of fluid around the testicle, which can lead to swelling. Hydroceles are typically painless and may resolve on their own.
4. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain and swelling. If you experience this, seek immediate medical attention.
5. Infections: Conditions such as epididymitis or orchitis can cause swelling and pain in the testicles. These are often accompanied by other symptoms like fever or discharge.
6. Testicular Cancer: While it's less common, testicular cancer typically presents as a painless lump or swelling in the testicle. It's crucial to note that most lumps are not cancerous, but any persistent changes should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Regarding the pain you experience after masturbation, this could be related to several factors, including muscle strain, tension, or even the presence of a cyst or varicocele. The discomfort may not necessarily indicate a serious issue, but it is worth discussing with a doctor.
Given your symptoms, it is highly advisable to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend an ultrasound of the scrotum to assess the nature of the lump and any associated issues. Early evaluation is key, especially if there is any concern about testicular cancer or other serious conditions.
In summary, while the symptoms you describe can be concerning, they do not automatically indicate testicular cancer. Many benign conditions can cause similar symptoms. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential for accurate diagnosis and peace of mind. Remember, early detection and treatment of any testicular issue can lead to better outcomes, so do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
