Cold sensation in the glans?

Hello Doctor: In the past few weeks, I have been feeling a cold sensation in the glans (this started before the weather got colder), which I have never experienced before.
It is accompanied by frequent urination and a feeling of incomplete emptying.
Occasionally, I also feel a sudden numbness in the perineum and scrotum.
I have had urine tests and a spa treatment, both of which were normal with no signs of inflammation.
However, I forgot to mention the cold sensation in the glans to the doctor before.
Could you please explain what might be causing this? My erections and sexual activity are normal without any issues.
Thank you!

Hello, the glans penis is part of the peripheral nervous system and typically has a lower temperature.
This sensation becomes more pronounced in cold weather.
If you dislike this feeling, you can enhance your cardiovascular health by engaging in high-intensity exercise.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.
Responses from the internet should only be used as a reference; if necessary, it is important to seek medical attention at a healthcare facility.

The sensation of coldness in the glans (the head of the penis) can be concerning, especially when accompanied by other symptoms such as frequent urination and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. While the sensation of coldness itself may not be a direct cause for alarm, it can indicate underlying issues that warrant further investigation.

One possible explanation for the cold sensation in the glans could be related to blood flow. The penis is highly vascular, and any changes in blood circulation can affect temperature perception. Cold weather can cause blood vessels to constrict, leading to reduced blood flow to the extremities, including the glans. This is a normal physiological response, but if the sensation persists even in warmer conditions, it may suggest an underlying vascular issue or nerve sensitivity.

Another consideration is the possibility of nerve involvement. The genital area is innervated by a network of nerves, and any irritation or compression of these nerves can lead to abnormal sensations, including coldness or tingling. Conditions such as pudendal nerve entrapment or other neuropathies could potentially cause these symptoms. The sudden onset of coldness, especially if it is accompanied by tingling or numbness in the perineal area or scrotum, may suggest a neurological component that should be evaluated.

Frequent urination and the sensation of not fully emptying the bladder can also be linked to several conditions. One common cause is prostatitis, which is inflammation of the prostate gland. This condition can lead to urinary symptoms and may also affect the sensation in the genital area. Although your urine tests and spa (presumably referring to a prostate examination) were normal, it may be worth discussing the possibility of prostatitis or other prostate-related issues with your healthcare provider.

Additionally, psychological factors such as anxiety can sometimes manifest as physical symptoms, including changes in sensation. If you are experiencing stress or anxiety related to your health or other life circumstances, this could potentially contribute to the sensations you are experiencing.

Given that your erectile function and sexual activity remain normal, this is a positive sign, as it suggests that the underlying vascular and neurological functions are intact. However, it is still essential to address the cold sensation and associated symptoms. I recommend discussing these symptoms with a urologist or a healthcare provider specializing in male health. They may suggest further diagnostic tests, such as nerve conduction studies or imaging, to rule out any underlying conditions.

In summary, while the sensation of coldness in the glans may not be an immediate cause for concern, it is essential to consider the broader context of your symptoms. Factors such as blood flow, nerve involvement, and potential prostate issues should be evaluated. Open communication with your healthcare provider is crucial to ensure that any underlying conditions are identified and appropriately managed.
