Suspected pregnancy after a miscarriage?

Hello doctor, I had a natural miscarriage and had a gynecological check-up on November 21.
The doctor said my uterus is normal now, but it has been almost a month and my period hasn't come yet.
My breasts are painful but not very swollen.
Occasionally, I feel a sharp pain in my uterus, and sometimes it feels dull and achy.
I also feel hungry easily and want to sleep, and I have some mild nausea.
Could I be pregnant again? I took a test but it was negative.
Should I wait a few more days to test again?

Ling, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2015/12/14

Hello, based on the situation you described, it is recommended to get checked if you haven't had your period by the end of December.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

After experiencing a miscarriage, many women wonder about the possibility of becoming pregnant again and what signs to look for. It's important to understand that after a miscarriage, your body goes through various changes, and it can take some time for your menstrual cycle to return to normal.
In your case, since you mentioned that your doctor has confirmed that your uterus is normal following the miscarriage on November 21, it is possible for you to conceive again. However, the absence of your menstrual period for almost a month can be concerning, especially if you are experiencing symptoms such as breast tenderness, abdominal discomfort, increased hunger, fatigue, and nausea. These symptoms can be indicative of pregnancy, but they can also be attributed to hormonal changes following a miscarriage.

The signs you are experiencing, such as breast tenderness and abdominal pain, can be common in early pregnancy. However, they can also occur due to hormonal fluctuations as your body adjusts after a miscarriage. It’s important to note that some women may experience irregular cycles or delayed menstruation after a miscarriage, which can complicate the timing of ovulation and conception.

Regarding the pregnancy test, if you have taken a test and it has come back negative, it may be too early to detect pregnancy, especially if your menstrual cycle has not yet resumed. Pregnancy tests measure the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. If you suspect you might be pregnant, it is advisable to wait a few days and then retest. If your period does not arrive and the test remains negative, it would be wise to consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

In summary, while it is possible to become pregnant shortly after a miscarriage, the symptoms you are experiencing could be due to a variety of factors, including hormonal changes. If you continue to have concerns or if your symptoms worsen, it is essential to follow up with your healthcare provider for a thorough assessment. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation and help determine the best course of action moving forward.
