Delayed menstruation?

I had my period on November 8th last month.
After it ended, I had unprotected intercourse, but there was no ejaculation inside.
This month, my period is over 10 days late and still hasn't arrived.
I took pregnancy tests on December 15, 16, and 17, and all were negative.
On December 16, I visited a gynecologist for a check-up, and the results were also negative.
I received an injection to induce menstruation.
After the injection, I noticed a milky white discharge with a fishy odor.
Initially, my breasts were swollen, but the swelling has decreased.
What could be going on? Is there a possibility of pregnancy?

You need to go to the hospital for a check-up to confirm the results; repeatedly testing urine for pregnancy over several days may not be accurate.

Delayed menstruation can be a source of concern for many women, especially when it occurs unexpectedly. In your case, you mentioned that your last menstrual period started on November 8, and now you are over ten days late. You have engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse, but you have also taken multiple pregnancy tests, all of which returned negative results. Additionally, you visited a gynecologist who confirmed that you are not pregnant and administered a medication to induce menstruation.

There are several potential causes for delayed menstruation, and understanding these can help alleviate some of your concerns. Here are some common factors that may contribute to menstrual irregularities:
1. Hormonal Imbalances: The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones. Stress, significant weight changes, and lifestyle factors can disrupt this balance, leading to delayed or missed periods. For instance, if you have experienced increased stress or changes in your daily routine, this could impact your cycle.

2. Pregnancy: While you have tested negative for pregnancy, it’s important to note that home pregnancy tests can sometimes yield false negatives, especially if taken too early. However, since you have also consulted a healthcare professional and received a negative result, it is less likely that pregnancy is the cause of your delayed menstruation.

3. Medical Conditions: Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other hormonal disorders can lead to irregular menstrual cycles. If you have a history of such conditions, it may be worth discussing with your healthcare provider.

4. Medications: Certain medications, including hormonal contraceptives and those used to induce menstruation, can affect your cycle. You mentioned receiving an injection to induce menstruation, which may take some time to take effect. The presence of white discharge and changes in breast tenderness could be side effects of the medication.

5. Lifestyle Factors: Changes in diet, exercise, and sleep patterns can also influence your menstrual cycle. For example, excessive exercise or significant caloric restriction can lead to missed periods.

6. Infections: The presence of unusual discharge, especially if it has a fishy odor, could indicate an infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI). It’s essential to consult with your healthcare provider if you notice any unusual symptoms.

Given your situation, it is advisable to monitor your symptoms closely. If your period does not start soon or if you experience any additional concerning symptoms, such as severe pain, fever, or unusual discharge, you should seek further medical evaluation. Your healthcare provider may recommend additional tests, such as blood tests to check hormone levels or an ultrasound to assess your reproductive organs.

In conclusion, while delayed menstruation can be concerning, it is often due to a variety of factors, many of which are not serious. Since you have already consulted a healthcare professional and received treatment, it is essential to follow up with them if your symptoms persist or worsen. Understanding your body and its responses to various factors can empower you to manage your reproductive health effectively.
