Chest lump
Hello, I am a 25-year-old female.
Recently, I noticed a lump about two centimeters in size near the left side of my chest, close to the underwire of my bra.
Compared to the same area on the right side, it feels noticeably swollen.
It is painful when pressed, and there is no discoloration like a bruise.
After observing it for two days, it seems to still be present.
Should I seek medical attention? If so, which specialty should I consult? Thank you.

Hello! It's important to address any new lumps or changes in your body, especially in sensitive areas like the chest. Given that you are a 25-year-old female and have noticed a lump on the left side of your chest near the underwire of your bra, there are several considerations to keep in mind.
Firstly, the presence of a lump that is painful to touch and has been persistent for a couple of days warrants medical attention. While not all lumps are indicative of serious conditions, it is crucial to have any new or unusual growths evaluated by a healthcare professional. The fact that you mentioned it is about two centimeters in size and has not changed in appearance (such as color or texture) over two days is a sign that it should be assessed.
In terms of which medical specialty to consult, you would typically start with a visit to a primary care physician or a general practitioner. They can perform an initial examination and determine if further evaluation is necessary. If the lump is suspected to be related to breast tissue, they may refer you to a breast specialist or a surgeon who specializes in breast health. In some cases, they might recommend imaging studies such as a mammogram or ultrasound to better understand the nature of the lump.
It's also worth noting that breast lumps can arise from various causes, including benign conditions such as cysts, fibroadenomas, or even hormonal changes related to your menstrual cycle. However, it is essential to rule out any potential malignancies, especially if there are changes in the lump's characteristics or if you have a family history of breast cancer.
In addition to seeking medical advice, you should monitor the lump for any changes. If it grows larger, becomes more painful, or if you notice any other symptoms such as discharge from the nipple, changes in the skin over the lump, or swelling in the surrounding area, you should seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, yes, you should see a doctor regarding the lump in your chest. Start with a primary care physician who can guide you through the next steps. Early evaluation and diagnosis are key to addressing any potential issues effectively. Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health. Take care!
