Abortion methods
I went to the doctor today because my period was late, and the doctor said I am pregnant, but it might only be two weeks, and nothing was visible on the ultrasound.
If I want to keep the baby, I would like to know which option is better between RU486 and surgery.

Hello, in cases where the gestational age is less than seven weeks, a medical abortion can be performed, with a success rate of approximately 95% and a failure rate of about 5%.
The process for a medical abortion is as follows:
1.
The physician must be a qualified "Maternal and Child Health" doctor authorized to perform medical abortions according to the law.
2.
The patient should receive a patient consent form, which must be read carefully.
Any questions should be discussed with healthcare personnel to ensure complete understanding before signing the consent form.
3.
Married patients must have their husbands accompany them, who must present identification and sign the consent form.
4.
Minors must have a parent or guardian present, who must bring identification and personally sign the consent form.
Process: Before taking the abortion medication, the patient must read and sign the patient consent form.
The patient will take three oral doses of the abortion medication at once.
After taking the medication, the patient should return for a follow-up appointment 36 to 48 hours later, where they will take prostaglandin medication and can then go home.
If there are any discomforts, hospitalization for observation may be necessary.
Within one to two weeks after taking the abortion medication, the patient must return for follow-up to confirm that the embryo has been completely expelled through clinical examination, β-HCG measurement, and ultrasound scanning.
Possible side effects may include uterine contractions or cramping (10-15%), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding, low blood pressure, skin allergic reactions, dizziness, flushing, and chills.
Minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
Thank you! Wishing you safety and health.

When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, especially at a very early stage like two weeks, individuals often consider their options carefully. The two primary methods for terminating a pregnancy are medical abortion using RU486 (mifepristone) and surgical abortion. Each method has its own advantages, disadvantages, and considerations that should be taken into account.
RU486 (Medical Abortion)
RU486 is a medication that can be used to terminate a pregnancy up to about 10 weeks gestation, although it is most effective when used within the first seven weeks. The process typically involves two medications: mifepristone, which blocks the hormone progesterone necessary for pregnancy continuation, and misoprostol, which induces uterine contractions to expel the pregnancy tissue.
Advantages of RU486:
1. Non-Invasive: It is a non-surgical method, which can be appealing for those who prefer to avoid surgical procedures.
2. Privacy: Many women appreciate the ability to manage the process in the privacy of their own homes.
3. High Success Rate: The success rate for medical abortion is approximately 95% when performed within the recommended timeframe.
Disadvantages of RU486:
1. Side Effects: Common side effects include cramping, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some women may experience more severe reactions.
2. Follow-Up Required: A follow-up appointment is necessary to ensure that the abortion is complete, which may involve additional examinations or tests.
3. Emotional Impact: Some women may experience emotional distress after taking the medication, especially if the process does not go as expected.
Surgical Abortion
Surgical abortion can be performed through various methods, including suction aspiration (suction curettage) or dilation and curettage (D&C). This method is typically performed in a clinical setting by a healthcare provider.
Advantages of Surgical Abortion:
1. Immediate Results: Surgical abortion is usually completed in one visit, providing immediate results.
2. Less Uncertainty: There is less chance of incomplete abortion compared to medical methods, which can sometimes require additional medical intervention.
3. Less Prolonged Bleeding: Many women experience less prolonged bleeding compared to medical abortion.
Disadvantages of Surgical Abortion:
1. Invasive Procedure: It is a surgical procedure, which carries risks such as infection, injury to the uterus, and complications from anesthesia.
2. Recovery Time: Some women may need time to recover physically and emotionally from the procedure.
3. Potential for Future Complications: There is a concern, although generally low, that surgical abortions could impact future pregnancies, particularly if complications arise.
Considerations for Decision-Making
1. Gestational Age: Since you are only about two weeks pregnant, both options are viable. However, medical abortion is often preferred at this early stage.
2. Health Status: Consider any pre-existing health conditions that may influence your choice. Discuss these with your healthcare provider.
3. Emotional Readiness: Reflect on your emotional readiness for either method. Some women may feel more comfortable with the privacy of a medical abortion, while others may prefer the decisiveness of a surgical procedure.
4. Support System: Having a support system in place can be crucial, regardless of the method chosen. This includes emotional support from friends, family, or counseling services.
Ultimately, the decision between RU486 and surgical abortion is personal and should be made based on your individual circumstances, preferences, and medical advice. It is essential to have open discussions with your healthcare provider to understand the implications of each option fully. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation, ensuring that you make an informed choice that aligns with your health and personal values.
