Possibility of pregnancy?
Hello doctor, I have been taking the oral contraceptive pill, Meliane, from October to November.
I decided to stop taking it in December.
Is there a possibility of becoming pregnant in December after stopping the pill? My menstrual cycle is approximately 31 days, and my last period was from December 15 to 20.
After my period, I had sexual intercourse with my partner every week.
As of now, I have not gotten my period in January.
Is it possible that I am pregnant? P.S.
The pregnancy test did not show a positive result.

Hello, after stopping the medication in December, there is a possibility of conception if no contraception is used.
It is recommended to take proper contraceptive measures during sexual intercourse.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant after stopping birth control pills, the answer is yes, it is possible. Birth control pills, like the one you mentioned (Mirean), work by regulating hormones to prevent ovulation. When you stop taking them, your body may take some time to readjust and return to its natural menstrual cycle. However, many women can ovulate as soon as a few days after stopping the pill, which means that if you have unprotected intercourse during that time, there is a chance of becoming pregnant.
In your case, you mentioned that you stopped taking the pill in December and had your last period from December 15 to 20. Given that your menstrual cycle is approximately 31 days, your next expected period would be around January 20. Since you have had unprotected intercourse every week after your last period and have not yet received your period in January, it is indeed possible that you could be pregnant.
The fact that you have not yet received your period could be a sign of pregnancy, especially since you have been sexually active without contraception. However, you also mentioned that a pregnancy test has not yielded a positive result. It's important to note that home pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period. If you test too early, the levels of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) may not be high enough to detect, leading to a false negative result.
If you suspect you might be pregnant, here are a few steps you can take:
1. Wait a Few Days: If your period does not arrive, wait a few more days and take another pregnancy test. This will give your body more time to produce hCG if you are pregnant.
2. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If you continue to have negative tests but still do not get your period, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test, which is more sensitive than home tests and can provide a definitive answer.
3. Monitor Symptoms: Pay attention to any early signs of pregnancy, such as nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, or frequent urination. These symptoms can help you determine if you should seek medical advice sooner.
4. Consider Other Factors: Sometimes, stopping birth control can lead to irregular cycles as your body readjusts. Stress, changes in weight, and other health factors can also affect your menstrual cycle.
In summary, yes, it is possible to get pregnant after stopping birth control pills, and given your situation, it would be prudent to take another pregnancy test or consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. Remember, every woman's body is different, and it may take some time for your cycle to normalize after discontinuing hormonal contraception.
