Could this lead to pregnancy?

This past Sunday, January 24th, I took my girlfriend to a hot spring.
While we were soaking, we attempted to engage in sexual activity.
I only penetrated a little bit, just the tip, and I only moved a few times because it was her first time and she was in pain, so I stopped.
Her hymen was not broken, and I did not ejaculate or feel the urge to.
She has a menstrual cycle tracker and is expected to get her period around February 4th, but it hasn't arrived yet.
In mid to late 2015, her menstrual dates were irregular.
Previously, she would get her period approximately every 28 days, but it has now been 30 days without a period.
She also mentioned experiencing breast tenderness, and I found online that delayed menstruation can cause breast tenderness as well.
I read that pregnancy typically requires ejaculation inside the vagina, and that sperm dies upon contact with hot water.
Given these circumstances, is there a possibility of pregnancy, or is it just a delayed period? Thank you, doctor.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low, but it is important to take proper contraceptive measures "before" sexual activity.
Do not rely on the safe period.
If your period is more than 1 to 2 weeks late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

The question of whether one can get pregnant from minimal penetration in hot springs is a nuanced one. To address this, we need to consider several factors related to human reproduction, the nature of sperm, and the conditions under which conception can occur.

Firstly, it is important to understand that pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg. For this to happen, sperm must be deposited in or very near the vaginal canal, where it can then swim through the cervix into the uterus and potentially meet an egg. In your case, you mentioned that there was minimal penetration and that ejaculation did not occur. This significantly reduces the likelihood of pregnancy, as sperm needs to be present in the vaginal canal in sufficient quantity to have a chance of fertilizing an egg.

However, it is worth noting that pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, albeit in much smaller quantities than ejaculate. If there was any contact between the pre-ejaculate and the vaginal area, there is a slight possibility of pregnancy, although this is generally considered to be low risk with minimal penetration.

Regarding the environment of hot springs, it is true that sperm can be adversely affected by extreme temperatures. Sperm are sensitive to heat, and exposure to hot water can reduce their motility and viability. However, the extent to which this would impact the sperm's ability to fertilize an egg is not entirely clear, and it is generally accepted that sperm can survive for a short period in warm water, especially if they are still within the male reproductive system.

Now, concerning your girlfriend's missed period and symptoms such as breast tenderness, these could be indicative of pregnancy, but they are also common premenstrual symptoms. Irregularities in menstrual cycles can occur for various reasons, including stress, hormonal changes, or other health issues. Since she has a history of irregular cycles, it is possible that her period is simply delayed rather than a sign of pregnancy.

If there is a concern about pregnancy, the most reliable way to confirm or rule it out is through a home pregnancy test or a visit to a healthcare provider. Home pregnancy tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. These tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period.

In conclusion, while the risk of pregnancy from minimal penetration in hot springs is low, it is not entirely impossible, especially if pre-ejaculate was involved. The symptoms your girlfriend is experiencing could be due to a variety of factors, and the best course of action would be to take a pregnancy test for clarity. If there are ongoing concerns or if her period does not arrive soon, consulting with a healthcare provider would be advisable for further evaluation and guidance.
