Will this lead to pregnancy?

Hello Doctor: My girlfriend got her period on January 30.
On February 5, we engaged in some intimate touching, but I did not penetrate her with my genitalia; I only used my hands.
She only performed oral sex and manual stimulation for a short time.
However, since neither of us was wearing underwear, there is a possibility that we might have come into contact with some bodily fluids (from the bed or genital area) during our embrace, or that my hands might have come into contact with them.
Given all these circumstances, is there a possibility of pregnancy? Thank you, Doctor.

When it comes to the question of whether pregnancy can occur from intimate touching, particularly in the context you've described, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the conditions under which it can happen.

Pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which typically happens through vaginal intercourse. In your scenario, where there was no penetration and only external contact, the likelihood of pregnancy is extremely low. However, there are a few factors to consider:
1. Sperm Viability: Sperm can survive outside the body for a short period, but they require a specific environment to remain viable. Sperm that is exposed to air or dries out quickly loses its ability to fertilize an egg. If there was any transfer of sperm from your hands or body to your girlfriend's vaginal area, the chances of those sperm being viable enough to cause pregnancy are minimal, especially if there was no direct ejaculation.

2. Timing of Ovulation: The timing of your girlfriend's menstrual cycle is also crucial. If her period started on January 30, she would likely be in her follicular phase, which is generally not the most fertile time of her cycle. Ovulation typically occurs around 14 days after the first day of her last period, making the window for conception narrower. If you were intimate on February 5, it would still be relatively early in her cycle, further reducing the likelihood of pregnancy.

3. Pre-ejaculate Fluid: It's worth noting that pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, but the amount is usually very small. If there was any contact with this fluid and it made its way into the vaginal canal, there is a slight chance of pregnancy, but again, this is quite rare without direct ejaculation.

4. Hygiene and Cleanliness: If both of you were clean and there was no direct transfer of sperm, the risk remains very low. However, it's always a good practice to maintain hygiene, especially when engaging in intimate activities.

5. Psychological Factors: Anxiety about potential pregnancy can often lead to stress, which can affect both partners. It's important to communicate openly with your partner about concerns and to consider using protection in the future to alleviate worries about unintended pregnancy.

In summary, while the scenario you've described presents a very low risk of pregnancy, it's not entirely impossible. If there are ongoing concerns about potential pregnancy, the best course of action would be for your girlfriend to take a home pregnancy test if her period is late or to consult with a healthcare provider for further advice. Additionally, if you are looking to avoid pregnancy in the future, consider discussing contraceptive options with a healthcare professional.
