Yellow-green discharge?
I have been experiencing yellow-green discharge for over six months.
Initially, I took antibiotics for a week, but the discharge has remained yellow-green without improvement.
It has a mucus-like consistency, somewhat similar to sticky pus.
After urination, I feel a sensation of irritation in the vulva, but there is no itching.
I have tried probiotics and traditional Chinese medicine, as well as intimate wash products, but none have been effective.
For the past six months, I have also experienced ovulation bleeding and ovulation pain, which I did not have before.
My sexual partner is female, and our intimate activities have only involved manual stimulation.
I have visited a hospital, but the doctor did not conduct further examinations, believing I have not engaged in sexual intercourse.
Is the persistent yellow-green discharge a cause for concern? What could be the possible reasons? Is it related to the bleeding as well? I feel overwhelmed by this discharge…

Hello, based on your symptom description, it is possible that you have a bacterial infection in the genital area.
Types of bacteria that could be involved include aerobic bacteria (such as Lactobacillus and Haemophilus species) and anaerobic bacteria (such as Gardnerella and Bacteroides species), among many others.
Symptoms may include: 1.
Abnormal color of vaginal discharge (such as yellow or grayish-white).
2.
Foul odor of vaginal discharge (such as a fishy smell).
3.
Possible accompanying burning sensation or itching.
Treatment typically involves a course of oral antibiotics for 3-7 days, during which excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided.
Discomfort in the vulvar area can be alleviated with topical ointments.
Preventive measures include: 1.
Maintaining a regular lifestyle, eating a balanced diet, and engaging in appropriate exercise to boost immunity.
2.
Using condoms can reduce the chances of recurrence.
3.
Prophylactic medications or vaginal washes may also help decrease the risk of infection.
Regarding the cause of abnormal bleeding in women, it may be due to hormonal imbalances, emotional factors, diet, age, etc.
However, it is crucial to rule out conditions such as uterine tumors, endometrial hyperplasia, cervical lesions, or vaginal lesions.
If bleeding persists or if there is an increase in discharge, it is advisable to consult a physician for further evaluation.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info
Persistent yellow-green discharge can be a concerning symptom for many women, especially when it lasts for an extended period, such as six months in your case. Understanding the potential causes and implications of this symptom is crucial for addressing your health concerns effectively.
Possible Causes of Persistent Yellow-Green Discharge
1. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV): This is one of the most common causes of abnormal vaginal discharge. BV occurs when there is an imbalance in the normal bacteria found in the vagina. Symptoms often include a thin, grayish-white discharge with a fishy odor, but some women may experience yellow-green discharge without a strong odor.
2. Yeast Infections: While yeast infections typically cause a thick, white discharge, some women may experience a yellowish discharge. However, yeast infections are usually accompanied by itching and irritation, which you mentioned you do not have.
3. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Certain STIs, such as trichomoniasis, can cause yellow-green discharge. This infection is often accompanied by itching, irritation, and sometimes a foul odor. Even if your sexual activity has been limited, it’s essential to consider the possibility of STIs, as some can be asymptomatic.
4. Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, especially during ovulation or perimenopause, can lead to changes in discharge. The presence of ovulation bleeding and pain may suggest that hormonal changes are influencing your symptoms.
5. Chronic Infections: If you have had a previous infection that was not fully resolved, it could lead to persistent symptoms. This can happen if the initial treatment was insufficient or if the infection was resistant to the antibiotics prescribed.
6. Vaginal Irritation: Frequent use of feminine hygiene products, douches, or even certain soaps can irritate the vaginal area, leading to abnormal discharge.
Importance of Medical Evaluation
Given that you have been experiencing this symptom for over six months, it is crucial to seek a thorough medical evaluation. Here are some steps you can take:
- Consult a Specialist: If you have not already, consider seeing a gynecologist who specializes in women's health. They can perform a pelvic exam, take cultures, and conduct tests to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms.
- Testing for STIs: Even if you believe you have not engaged in penetrative sexual activity, it is still advisable to get tested for STIs, as some infections can be transmitted through other forms of sexual contact.
- Consider a Comprehensive Approach: Since you have tried various treatments without success, a comprehensive approach that includes lifestyle changes, dietary adjustments, and possibly a different class of antibiotics or antifungals may be necessary.
Connection to Other Symptoms
The connection between your yellow-green discharge and the occurrence of ovulation bleeding and pain is worth exploring. Hormonal fluctuations can lead to changes in the vaginal environment, potentially making it more susceptible to infections. Additionally, any irritation or inflammation in the vaginal area can exacerbate the sensation of discomfort or stimulation after urination.
Conclusion
Persistent yellow-green discharge is not something to ignore, especially when accompanied by other symptoms like irritation or changes in your menstrual cycle. It is essential to pursue a thorough evaluation to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. Maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and any changes you experience will be vital in managing your health effectively. Remember, your comfort and well-being are paramount, and seeking help is a crucial step in addressing your concerns.
