Head injury at work?
Hello doctor, about one or two months ago, I had to bend over to enter a machine at work and bumped my head against the magnetic door of the machine (about 1 cm).
It was very painful at the time, and when I got off work, I felt my head and found a lump of blood.
However, since it didn't hurt anymore, I didn't pay much attention to it.
Starting yesterday, when I woke up, the area where I bumped my head began to have occasional pain.
I asked my family to take a look, and there were no visible injuries.
The pain has been ongoing for a day and a half (until noon on 2/12).
It hurts a bit when I press on it, but it's not as intense as the occasional pain I feel, and I don't feel anything while sleeping.
Should I seek further examination at a hospital? If so, which department should I visit?

In theory, it is not necessary, but if you are concerned, you can visit a neurosurgery outpatient clinic for an examination!

More Info
When it comes to head injuries, especially those sustained in a work environment, it's crucial to be vigilant about any symptoms that may arise after the incident. Based on your description, you experienced a head injury about one to two months ago when you bumped your head against a machine. Initially, you felt pain and noticed a lump, but since the pain subsided, you did not seek further medical attention. However, you are now experiencing intermittent pain at the site of the injury, which raises some concerns.
When to Seek Medical Attention
1. Persistent or Worsening Symptoms: If you notice that the pain is becoming more frequent or severe, or if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, or changes in vision, it is essential to seek medical attention. These could be signs of complications such as intracranial bleeding or other neurological issues.
2. Neurological Symptoms: Any new neurological symptoms, such as confusion, difficulty concentrating, weakness in limbs, or changes in speech, warrant immediate medical evaluation. These symptoms could indicate more serious underlying issues that need to be addressed.
3. Duration of Symptoms: Since you mentioned that the pain has persisted for a day and a half, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. While some discomfort may be normal after a minor head injury, ongoing pain could suggest that further evaluation is necessary.
Recommended Medical Specialties
For your situation, you should consider visiting a neurologist or a neurosurgeon. These specialists are trained to assess and manage head injuries and can perform the necessary diagnostic tests, such as a CT scan or MRI, to rule out any serious complications. If you are unsure about which specialist to see, starting with your primary care physician is a good option; they can provide a referral based on your symptoms.
Diagnostic Tests
If you do go for an evaluation, the doctor may recommend imaging studies to assess the condition of your brain and any potential injuries. A CT scan is often the first-line imaging study for head injuries, as it can quickly identify bleeding, fractures, or other abnormalities. If you have concerns about allergies to contrast agents, be sure to inform your healthcare provider, as there are non-contrast imaging options available.
Conclusion
In summary, while it may seem that your initial injury has resolved, the emergence of new symptoms such as pain at the injury site should not be ignored. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to head injuries. Seek medical attention promptly, especially if your symptoms worsen or if you develop new neurological signs. Early intervention can be crucial in preventing potential complications and ensuring a full recovery. Remember, your health and safety are paramount, and addressing any concerns with a medical professional is the best course of action.
