Itching of the penis, peeling skin, and a lump at the base?
Hello doctor, I have a lump near the base of my penis, just below my lower abdomen, that looks like a pimple.
It was larger before, but it has shrunk now.
It feels about the size of a pinky nail, and there is a ring of peeling skin on the surface (similar to the appearance of skin after squeezing out some secretion).
Pressing on it causes a slight pain.
I'm not sure what this symptom could be.
Additionally, the surface of my penis often itches, and I sometimes scratch it, leading to peeling.
I would like to know how to take care of this and if there are any precautions I should be aware of.
Thank you for your response, doctor.

Without actually seeing the lesion, it cannot be confirmed.
If it is causing significant distress, it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

More Info
It sounds like you are experiencing a concerning skin issue near the base of your penis, characterized by a bump that resembles a pimple and is accompanied by peeling skin and itching. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, I can offer some insights into potential causes and care strategies based on common dermatological conditions.
The bump you described could be a variety of things, including a sebaceous cyst, folliculitis, or even a form of dermatitis. Sebaceous cysts are non-cancerous lumps filled with keratin that can occur when hair follicles become blocked. Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles, often caused by bacterial or fungal infections, and can present as red, itchy bumps. Dermatitis, particularly contact dermatitis, could also be a possibility if you've been exposed to irritants or allergens.
The peeling skin around the bump may indicate that the area is irritated or inflamed. This could be due to friction, moisture, or an allergic reaction to products such as soaps, lotions, or even laundry detergents. The itching and subsequent scratching can exacerbate the condition, leading to further irritation and peeling.
Here are some general care tips that may help alleviate your symptoms:
1. Keep the Area Clean and Dry: Gently wash the area with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs that can irritate the skin further. After washing, pat the area dry with a clean towel.
2. Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that certain products may be causing irritation, consider eliminating them from your routine. This includes scented soaps, lotions, or any new products you may have recently started using.
3. Moisturize: Applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer can help soothe the skin and prevent dryness. Look for products that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin.
4. Avoid Scratching: While it may be tempting to scratch the itchy areas, doing so can lead to further irritation and potential infection. Try to keep your nails trimmed and consider wearing loose-fitting clothing to minimize friction.
5. Over-the-Counter Treatments: If the itching is bothersome, you might consider using an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to reduce inflammation and itching. However, use it sparingly and not for extended periods without consulting a healthcare provider.
6. Consult a Dermatologist: Given the symptoms you described, it would be wise to consult a dermatologist or healthcare provider for a proper evaluation. They can provide a more accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatments, which may include prescription medications if necessary.
7. Monitor Changes: Keep an eye on the bump and any changes in your symptoms. If it becomes larger, more painful, or shows signs of infection (such as increased redness, warmth, or pus), seek medical attention promptly.
In conclusion, while the symptoms you are experiencing can be concerning, many skin conditions are manageable with proper care and treatment. It is essential to consult a healthcare professional for a personalized assessment and to rule out any serious underlying conditions. Taking proactive steps to care for your skin and avoiding irritants can significantly improve your comfort and skin health.
