Could I be pregnant?
Hello Doctor, I am currently preparing for pregnancy.
My menstrual cycle has been quite regular for the past three months: November 13, December 13, and January 14.
However, this month it is already February 19 and I have not gotten my period yet.
I took a pregnancy test at the obstetrics and gynecology clinic yesterday, and it showed that I am not pregnant.
Aside from feeling some breast tenderness, I do not have any other discomfort.
Is it possible that I could still be pregnant?

Hello, the chances are low.
If your period does not arrive after waiting another week, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
When considering the possibility of pregnancy, especially in the context of irregular menstrual cycles, there are several factors to take into account. Based on your description, it appears that you have had a relatively regular menstrual cycle for the past few months, with your last period on January 14. However, as of February 19, you have not experienced your expected period, and a recent pregnancy test has returned negative.
Firstly, it is important to understand that a missed period can be caused by various factors beyond pregnancy. Stress, changes in weight, hormonal imbalances, or even certain medications can disrupt your menstrual cycle. Given that you have been trying to conceive, it is natural to be more attuned to changes in your body, which can sometimes lead to heightened anxiety or stress, further impacting your cycle.
The symptoms you mentioned, such as breast tenderness, can be associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or early signs of pregnancy. However, breast tenderness alone is not a definitive indicator of pregnancy. It is also worth noting that some women experience symptoms of pregnancy even when they are not pregnant, which can be attributed to hormonal fluctuations.
In your case, since you have taken a pregnancy test that returned negative, it is advisable to wait a few more days and consider retesting. Pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period, and testing too early can lead to false negatives. If your period does not arrive within a week or two, it would be prudent to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend a blood test to measure the levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is a hormone produced during pregnancy and can provide a more definitive answer.
Additionally, if you are actively trying to conceive, it may be beneficial to track ovulation. Ovulation predictor kits can help identify your fertile window, increasing your chances of conception. Understanding your cycle and ovulation patterns can provide valuable insights into your reproductive health.
If you continue to experience irregularities in your menstrual cycle or have concerns about your fertility, it is essential to seek guidance from a healthcare professional. They can help assess any underlying issues that may be affecting your menstrual cycle and provide personalized recommendations.
In summary, while it is possible to be pregnant despite a negative test, there are many factors that can influence your menstrual cycle. Monitoring your symptoms, retesting for pregnancy, and consulting with a healthcare provider if your period does not arrive are all important steps to take. Remember that every woman's body is different, and understanding your unique cycle can empower you in your journey toward conception.
