Vibration sensation in the anus?
Hello doctor, I recently visited a hospital to see a colorectal surgeon regarding my hemorrhoids.
The doctor recommended surgery, but due to the nature of my work, I cannot take time off right now, so I need to wait before proceeding with the surgery.
The doctor prescribed a hemorrhoid ointment and a laxative to take before the surgery (the doctor did not explain to me what the vibrating sensation was about, as he was very busy with many patients, and I left shortly after).
I do not experience bleeding during bowel movements and have no significant pain, but I do feel a sense of swelling.
A few days before seeing the doctor, I had constipation for three days and took probiotics, which led to a day of diarrhea, after which I started to feel a persistent vibrating sensation in my anus that has lasted for three days.
Should I return for a follow-up appointment, or is it sufficient to just apply the ointment?

Understanding anal vibration sensation after hemorrhoid treatment can be quite perplexing, especially when you are experiencing unusual symptoms following a recent consultation. It’s important to first clarify that the sensation you are describing—persistent vibration or a tingling feeling in the anal region—can be attributed to several factors related to your condition and treatment.
Firstly, hemorrhoids, which are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus, can cause a variety of sensations, including discomfort, itching, and sometimes a feeling of fullness or pressure. The sensation of vibration you are experiencing could be a result of increased sensitivity in the anal area, possibly due to inflammation or irritation from the hemorrhoids themselves. When you have been constipated and subsequently had a bowel movement, the straining can exacerbate the condition of hemorrhoids, leading to increased swelling and irritation, which might explain the vibration sensation.
Moreover, the use of medications such as topical ointments or creams prescribed for hemorrhoids can also contribute to changes in sensation. These medications often contain active ingredients that can cause a tingling or cooling effect, which might be perceived as a vibration. If you have recently started using a new hemorrhoid cream, it’s worth considering whether this could be influencing your symptoms.
Given that you mentioned you do not have bleeding or significant pain, this is a positive sign. However, the persistent nature of the vibration sensation for three days warrants further attention. It is advisable to return to your healthcare provider for a follow-up appointment. During this visit, you can discuss your symptoms in detail, including the vibration sensation, any changes in bowel habits, and the effectiveness of the medication you are using. Your doctor may want to perform a physical examination to ensure that there are no complications, such as thrombosed hemorrhoids or other underlying issues that could be causing your symptoms.
In addition, if you are experiencing any new symptoms such as increased pain, bleeding, or changes in bowel habits, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. While the sensation you are experiencing may not be alarming, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
In the meantime, continue to manage your bowel health by maintaining a high-fiber diet, staying hydrated, and using stool softeners if necessary to prevent constipation. This can help reduce strain during bowel movements and alleviate some of the discomfort associated with hemorrhoids.
In summary, while the vibration sensation you are experiencing may be related to your hemorrhoid condition or treatment, it is essential to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any complications and to receive personalized advice on managing your symptoms effectively. Your health and comfort are paramount, and open communication with your doctor will help ensure you receive the best care possible.
