Erectile dysfunction?
Hello doctor, I am currently at work and have not had an exercise routine this year.
However, I do not smoke, drink alcohol, or stay up late.
In recent months, I have noticed that after an erection, I am unable to achieve full engorgement of the glans, which appears somewhat wrinkled.
During intercourse, if I withdraw to change positions, I quickly lose rigidity and need to be stimulated again for a while.
I am starting to feel stressed about this, and the same goes for masturbation.
Should I seek medical attention? Additionally, is there a significant difference between the consultations provided by hospitals and urology clinics, particularly regarding equipment and examinations?

Dr. Li Xinyi reply Urology
Erection is closely related to health.
Experiencing issues at such a young age is a warning sign to take good care of your body.
Generally, there is no need for special equipment or tests.
However, it is still advisable to consult a urologist for further discussion.

Erection issues can be a source of concern for many men, and understanding when to seek medical advice is crucial for addressing these problems effectively. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing difficulties with maintaining an erection, particularly in situations that require sustained arousal. This can manifest as a lack of firmness in the penis, difficulty in achieving full erection, and a tendency for the erection to subside quickly during sexual activity.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that erectile dysfunction (ED) can have various underlying causes, including psychological factors such as stress and anxiety, as well as physical factors like hormonal imbalances, cardiovascular issues, or nerve damage. Given that you mentioned feeling pressure and experiencing changes in your erection quality, it would be advisable to consult a urologist. A urologist specializes in male reproductive health and can provide a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of your symptoms.
In terms of when to seek consultation, you should consider making an appointment if:
1. Persistent Symptoms: If you have been experiencing these erection issues consistently for several months, it is a good idea to seek professional help. Occasional difficulties can be normal, but ongoing problems may indicate an underlying health issue.
2. Impact on Quality of Life: If your erectile difficulties are affecting your sexual relationships or causing you significant stress or anxiety, it is important to address these concerns with a healthcare provider.
3. Associated Symptoms: If you notice other symptoms such as changes in libido, pain during erections, or any other unusual physical changes, these should be discussed with a doctor as they may provide additional clues to the underlying problem.
Regarding your question about the differences between hospital and urology clinic consultations, there can be some variations. Hospitals typically have access to a wider range of diagnostic tools and specialists, which can be beneficial if your case requires comprehensive evaluation or if there are additional health concerns. Urology clinics, on the other hand, may offer a more focused approach with specialists who deal specifically with male reproductive health issues.
In both settings, you can expect to undergo a physical examination, and the doctor may ask about your medical history, lifestyle factors, and any medications you are taking. Diagnostic tests may include blood tests to check hormone levels, ultrasound to assess blood flow, or other specialized tests to evaluate nerve function and penile health.
In conclusion, given your symptoms and the impact they are having on your life, it would be prudent to seek a consultation with a urologist. They can provide a tailored approach to your situation, offer potential treatment options, and help alleviate any concerns you may have. Remember, addressing these issues early can lead to better outcomes and improved quality of life.
