Throat inflammation?
Doctor, I would like to ask you something.
About 5 to 6 days ago, I visited a clinic, and they said I had pharyngitis.
However, for the past two days, I've been feeling a sensation of something stuck in my throat.
I have been producing phlegm that I want to swallow, but I can't seem to do so.
Sometimes I feel the urge to burp, and at times I have a bitter taste in my mouth.
The sensation of something stuck is located in the upper right side of my throat.
I didn't have this symptom during my previous colds, so I find it quite strange.
Could there be something growing in my throat?

Hello, the common cause of the sensation of a foreign body is inflammation.
If the symptoms persist and do not improve, further medical examination is necessary.
Wishing you safety and health.
Sincerely, Dr.

Throat inflammation, commonly referred to as pharyngitis or laryngitis, can present with a variety of symptoms, including a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and the sensation of a foreign body in the throat. Your description of persistent throat discomfort, the sensation of an obstruction, and the presence of phlegm suggests that your throat inflammation may be more than just a simple viral infection.
The feeling of having something stuck in your throat, known as "globus sensation," can be associated with several conditions. It is important to consider the possibility of post-nasal drip, which occurs when mucus accumulates in the throat due to sinus issues or allergies. This can lead to irritation and the sensation of a lump in the throat. Additionally, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can cause similar symptoms, where stomach acid irritates the throat, leading to discomfort and a bitter taste.
The bitter taste you mentioned could also be indicative of acid reflux, especially if you experience heartburn or regurgitation. It’s essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the sensation of a foreign body persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty breathing, severe pain, or fever, it would be prudent to seek further medical evaluation.
In some cases, throat inflammation can be caused by bacterial infections, such as streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat), which may require antibiotic treatment. If your symptoms do not improve with time or if they escalate, it would be advisable to return to your healthcare provider for a thorough examination. They may perform a physical examination, including looking at your throat with a light, and possibly order tests such as a throat culture or imaging studies if they suspect a more serious underlying condition.
It’s also worth noting that in some instances, throat inflammation can be caused by irritants such as smoke, pollution, or allergens, which can exacerbate symptoms. Staying hydrated, using throat lozenges, and avoiding irritants can help alleviate discomfort.
In summary, while throat inflammation can often be self-limiting and resolve on its own, the symptoms you are experiencing warrant further attention, especially if they persist. Consulting with a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation will help determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Remember, your health is paramount, and addressing these symptoms early can lead to better outcomes.
