Pregnancy date
Hello doctor, my menstrual period ended on August 31, 2015, but I had sexual intercourse on the 30th (using a condom the entire time, no ejaculation).
Is it possible to get pregnant at that time? (My periods are irregular and usually arrive about a week late.) In September, I had sexual intercourse about two to three times; at the beginning of the month, there was no ejaculation inside (thinking my period had just ended), and later in the month, there was ejaculation outside.
I am currently 25 weeks and one day pregnant.
However, I experienced bleeding on October 12 and 13, when I still didn't know I was pregnant.
I only discovered I was pregnant on November 7, at seven weeks and three days.
I am confused about when exactly I conceived, but I previously asked a doctor who estimated that I likely conceived in early October.
My due date is June 23, 2016.
I would like to ask when the conception likely occurred and how long it takes to conceive.
Māo māo, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/03/11
Dr. Zhang Kunmin reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello, based on your description, due to the irregularity of your cycle, it is possible that conception occurred approximately five weeks before November 7.
The other time points are more difficult to estimate.
Please consult your physician for further monitoring and evaluation.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info
Understanding the timeline of conception and pregnancy can indeed be confusing, especially when menstrual cycles are irregular and multiple sexual encounters occur around the same time. Based on the information you've provided, let's break down the key points to help clarify when conception likely occurred and how to interpret the dates.
1. Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation: Your last menstrual period (LMP) ended on August 31, 2015. Typically, ovulation occurs about 14 days after the first day of your last period in a regular cycle. However, since you mentioned that your cycles are irregular and can be delayed by about a week, pinpointing ovulation can be more challenging. If we assume a typical cycle, ovulation might have occurred around mid-September, which is when conception is most likely to happen.
2. Timing of Sexual Intercourse: You mentioned having sexual intercourse on August 30 with a condom (no ejaculation), which significantly reduces the likelihood of pregnancy. However, you also had unprotected sex in early September, which increases the chances of conception. If you had unprotected intercourse around the time of ovulation (mid to late September), that would be the most probable time for conception.
3. Bleeding in October: The bleeding you experienced on October 12 and 13 could be implantation bleeding, which occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. This typically happens about 6 to 12 days after conception. If you conceived in early to mid-September, this timing aligns well with the potential for implantation bleeding.
4. Pregnancy Confirmation: You discovered your pregnancy on November 7, 2015, at approximately 7 weeks and 3 days. This aligns with the timeline of conception occurring in early to mid-September. The estimated due date of June 23, 2016, is calculated based on the standard 40-week gestation period from the first day of your last menstrual period.
5. Calculating Conception Date: To estimate the conception date, healthcare providers often subtract two weeks from the gestational age determined by ultrasound or the LMP. In your case, if you were 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant on November 7, that would suggest conception likely occurred around September 20, 2015.
6. Irregular Cycles: Since your menstrual cycles are irregular, it’s important to note that ovulation can vary significantly from month to month. This variability can make it difficult to accurately predict the exact date of conception without monitoring ovulation through methods such as ovulation predictor kits or tracking basal body temperature.
7. Consulting Healthcare Providers: If you have ongoing concerns or confusion about your pregnancy timeline, it’s advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. They can offer more personalized insights based on your medical history and any ultrasounds performed.
In summary, while the exact date of conception can be difficult to pinpoint, it is likely that conception occurred in early to mid-September based on your menstrual cycle and the timing of your sexual encounters. The bleeding in October may have been related to implantation, and your pregnancy confirmation aligns with this timeline. If you have further questions or need clarification, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.
